When exactly did this happen? I think people would have been happy for him to stay, but understood that it was a waste of operating budget to keep 2 senior keepers on at the same time

I'd take etheridge back instead pf Smithies and make him no 1 keeper ahead of Phillips. And with Birmingham possibly in trouble of relegation it could happen.
