  • Bellamy quote on Colwill

“I’ve known Rubin a long time and his potential is there for all to see but he’s got a long way to go”

That was it when asked about Colwill. A bit cryptic and doesn’t feel to me like it was a challenge to him as he wasn’t even in the squad to start. Definitely something that manager after manager has an issue with - is it his work off the ball? Not retaining possession enough?

    Colwill is enigmatic

He can change games in a click with a dummy .....watch the drop shoulder to fool the jack before he passes out to Tanner for the equaliser

    Superb

Then next match he doesn't do much

It's the way he is but I think hes far better being in our squad than playing in league one

I think he'll be one of those players who fans love because he can change a game but won't be a top top player because he doesn't have it in him to dominate a game consistently. Not sure what it is he's missing but it's not the end of the world, there's room for those players in football

        Re: Bellamy quote on Colwill

I think he's improved a lot this season, previously he would always try something elaborate even when it wasn't on or at all necessary, barely would even dribble without the FIFA style ball rolls.

        Looks far more switched on.

He's clearly beyond league one - if we were selling him there would be a queue of championship clubs interested.
I can think of a dozen times I've been on opposition message boards after the game to find their fans singing his praises, where we always seem to get the "well yes, but...."
Other teams in this division mange to accommodate a player of his type - who can change games, for some reason we see it as a luxury we can't afford.

With regards to your second sentence you’re spot on. The jacks I know in work ( and they are hardly complimentary) rave about him.

I have always wondered whether a change of position would be the answer. Out an out striker maybe?

He doesn’t need a change of position. He just needs to be played in his correct f-ing position. Fed up of manager after manager trying to shoehorn him into the team by playing him out wide.

I don’t think he’s had a fair crack off any of the manages here. He needs to be played in a 10 and told he’s getting the nod for at least 6 games. Starting him for 1 or 2 games, usually out of position, and back on the bench is no good for his development and it’s no good for the club to be wasting his obvious talent.

It’s no coincidence when played in his correct position in the cup games he’s looked an absolute baller. That performance against Southampton was one of the best individual performances from a skill and creativity point of view since the days of Lee Tomlin.

Cardiff City FC had been starved of players who get you off your seat for well over a decade. We’ve got one of our own at the club and we are absolutely wasting him.

Instead people want to concentrate on what he can’t do - managers, fans, pundits. **** off. The same used to be said about Whitts but if either player could run fast and tackle and were great without the ball they would be playing in the top half of the Premier League such is/was their technical ability.

I’d much rather Colwill try things and lose the ball occasionally than someone who just plays the safe option all the time and just
slows play down. Have a look at KDBs opinion on pass completion statistics and he’s the best passer on the world.

                Rant over

                Ps : BULUT OUT

                  Exactly.

He's also not even that bad defensively, statistically he's pretty good for a player in his position, he was when he first got into the side but that was about 3 years ago and its a narrative that's just stuck.

100% agree, I’m not interested in what he can’t do, let’s just concentrate on what he’s capable of doing, sadly until we have a manager who is capable of motivating a team to play to win, it’s easy for people to point out the negatives.

Of course Bulut might be bang on the money with his approach, the stats must be wrong
                    Played 4
                    Points 1
                    Goals scored 1
                    Goals against 10

                    Boredom factor 101%

Thing is he's not going to develop consistency by being in and out of the team either. It's a conundrum.

We've certainly had our fair share of that type of player at Cardiff. Colwill, Tomlin, Fowler, Whitts...
I like Colwill, and think he offers something that the side is currently lacking - some spark, a bit of flair, something unexpected. Sadly our manager is very much a 'play it safe' sort of guy, and I reckon he's on the touchline, chewing his finger nails to the quick, every time Rubin sets off on one of his runs.

Yeah I'm always happier when I see he's playing, or about to come on. I think he needs to improve his decision making sometimes but he brings that little bit of unknown that everybody's favourite players carry. Would love to see a manager tell him that he's the man and give him a run at 10
