I practically lived in there from the age of 16 ! Popular bands back in the day, were Su Yu, and Kicking the Image.

Memory not what it was but seem to remember seeing a band called Zipper there having previously seen them play the Cross Keys in Llantwit Major.

Sunday afternoons were all about Mickey G up The Bristol Hotel ….The Inn was always full of “out of towners”

For me it was the Bute Dock and then on to Bab's Kitchen, just a short stroll away. (during the strict Sunday licensing days).

Bab’s Bistro in The Docks…….Jan’s Kitchen was an ‘out of hours’ watering hole on Broadway.

Patrice cafe/restaurant on Clifton street. Definitely late opening

I honestly don't remember it being called 'Bab's Bistro', but I'll accept that you are right.
'Jan's Kitchen', was that very close to the Clifton?
If it was, I went there a few times until the late hours of the morning. Rough as feck, some really dodgy looking characters, but they never brought grief upon you (unless you really went looking for it!).

Definitely Bab’s Bistro, owned & ran by Babs Burrows. Jan’s Kitchen was the old Numismatics Club, a block or two further up Broadway from The New Dock Tavern. Ran by a right dodgy character, Billy Hood. As you say it was a den of iniquity, he later changed the name to Clayton’s Prison. We very often called in there after a night in the Oak or the Dock. You had to buy a plate of chips though as it was a stipulation of the licence most probably. Had some great laughs in there amongst the characters, great times.

Bab’s was a lot less chaotic than Jan’s, very popular early, early morning (I’m talking 6am ish) with blobbing dockers, breakfast & 7 or 8 Strongbows being popular on the menu.
