  • Those substitutions

Listening to the post-match review on YT Riza says that he took Robinson and El Ghazi off as they were running on empty(my words, as I can't remember his).

So, in view of this, who would you have brought on in their places?

    Re: Those substitutions

It would have to be kanga or meite for Robinson and willock or O'Dowda for El Ghazi based on who was on the bench

      Re: Those substitutions

It wasn't so much the substitutions but the change of formation and moving Colwill that did the damage. And, for what it's worth, I don't think Robinson was running on empty at all.

El Ghazi was a waste of a shirt once more. He could have been replaced by O'Dowda in a like-for-like swap with no change of formation.

        Re: Those substitutions

I didn't take from his comments that those players particularly were running on empty, but as a team our energy was starting to drop, and gaps were starting to open up in our midfield, so they wanted to counteract that with the change in formation - which clearly was a disaster.
I also think that Robinson looked like he had a bit left in the tank, and he looked a bit annoyed at being taken off, it's been speculated that he's had fillings out with other managers in the past so Riza will need to be careful with how he handles this with the players

Robinson is the only capable goal scorer in our front line

I can't see any goals in the rest of those available

That’s why he should have been left on, he didn’t look like he was struggling and we have nobody else to play there ( it was a waste of a shirt bringing Kanga on) . El ghazi was contributing nothing so replacing him with O Dowda made sense. Tanner had put quite some effort in so replacing him with say Rinhomota to shore up midfield might have made sense with 10 minutes to go but bringing Daland on made no sense as defensively we were doing fine at that point. The change in shape just invited a poor Bristol team on to us ( and they really don’t like Manning either!)

Whilst Riza taking him ff didn't sign players and he has to work with what he's got I think Robinson is chomping at the bit this season

On Sunday his reaction to the goal suggested he's well up for it and taking him off was a faux pas

I think Kanga and Meite are both sub standard and Kanga runs about like a lame horse ready for the knackers yard

Totally agree. The change to 5 at the back and putting Colwill centre forward was crazy.

One thing it does show is we have a big problem if Robinson isn't on the pitch.

Kanga is not good enough. Has to be left out of the squad completely.

Reindorf and Ashford with what we have available need to be the bench options.

I thought Etete needed loaning out but we are going to need him until January at least.

Also let's hope Isaak is fit soon as our attacking options through the middle are really poor.

El Ghazi needs to do something amazing soon as I am lost to what he brings to the team. He is a winger who can't beat a player, can't shoot at goal or cross the ball. He seems to play simply because our other wingers are even more ineffective.

ATM he has my award for the worst summer signing although Wilock is pushing him close

Kanga is the worst by a mile.

on paper they all seemed like decent signings, well perhaps kanga less so but the other two certainly.
also only a few weeks ago people on here were saying that Colwill should have a loan to league one and Tanner and Bagan were not upto it at this level .

I’ve definitely played Sunday league with better strikers than kanga….how on earth has he made it to this level?

Changing formation wasn't a disaster, it was a mistake. Lets have a bit of balance.

                            No chance, Tuerto.

There's already a "Riza is useless" camp on this messageboard despite the obvious improvement under him.

To be fair TOBW's report was balanced. The substitutions were undoubtedly a mistake in hindsight. There were other positive aspects.

It was both. A mistake with disastrous consequences. After the formation change and before they scored it was just a matter of time. They had several chances and hit the post and you just knew what was coming as soon as we made the changes. To change formation, drop deep and invite sustained pressure and try and hold on for 30 minutes was absolutely ludicrous.

I stand by what I said yesterday and it was one of the worse in-game tactical decisions I’ve ever seen.

All the credit he built by playing on the front foot totally gone with one moronic decision. He would have been better off owning the mistake after the match and not try to justify it and say he would do it again.
