  • Would you rather

    (A) we carry on playing this attacking football in every game, no matter the opposition, and win some games but lose others 4-3 - ultimately finishing bottom half but clear of relegation

    (B) we become an efficient but dour side, grinding out 1-0s and finish 6th but lose in the playoff semis

I started watching football because everything about it was exciting. The game, the atmosphere, players expressing themselves, jumpers for goalposts and all that!

If we end the season not getting promoted and not getting relegated, I don’t care where we finish. I am not going to celebrate that we finished in 12th place, who will care?

I want to turn up to a match and feel excitement and anticipation about what is to come, I want to see entertaining winning football, like we have recently witnessed where the team is battling together defensively and expressing themselves in an entertaining attacking sense.

I don’t want to be watching a game of football where the team has been set up by a manager who is picking the team because it might keep him in a job if we finish mid table.

I only watched the 1st half Saturday and 2nd half Tuesday so I’ve only seen two goals but I could happily watch that style of football anytime, a joy to watch.

But what happens if we play better football but get relegated ?

Goutas was getting the bird a few weeks ago but he's a powerhouse old school central defender and we need that sort of presence in the side

And it could be our midfield proves too lighweight in the next few months

D, we carry on attacking, batter Swansea and Bristol in the next games and go up as Champions

If it can't be that A, but still batter the Worzels and tramps.

I get your point about Goutas and the need for that type of presence in the side, however I would say that he has a better passing ability than most old school defenders.

If we play like we did on Tuesday, I would be happy. The team was a collective… fluid when attacking, it was set up so everyone knew what was expected when the opposition had the ball, and on the odd occasion we were facing a counter attack when we lost possession, there was a collective determination to win the ball back and get your team mate out of a hole.

No one will argue that there is a time and place to grind out a result, for example when a couple of players are having an off day, we need an important point or the opposition have put us under the cosh. But until such times are needed I like what I am currently seeing.
