  • Robert earnshaws accent

Commentator on ESPN Harrogate V Wrexham

Sounds very North American/Canadian these days randomly.
    No Caerphilly tones noted.

Great player and City legend but I can't stand listening to him.
    Always sounds contrived.

Some people are more influenced than others by accents in adopted environments. My optician is from Bristol, work and lives in Taunton and studied for her degree in Cardiff. Her Cardiffian accent is quite noticeable even though her studies finished years ago and that she returned to the West Country afterwards.

I used to go out with an optician. I tried to finish it, but everytime I said I can’t see you anymore, she’d take a step closer and say how about now ?

My daughter was the other way around. She was brought up in Cardiff and went to uni in Exeter. When she went there she had a Cardiff accent. By the time she finished she had lost a lot of her Cardiff accent and acquired a liking for cider.

Earnshaw was 9 or 10 when he moved to Wales, so a Welsh accent wouldn't have been embedded in him, and I think the time he spent in Zambia and Malawi would have had a more lasting effect.

When you went to bed, did she ask if it was better this way, or that way?

I agree - like he is trying too hard.

I watched a game recently with him on co-comms and he would NOT shut up. He talked more than the quite dreadful Lucy Ward.
