Re: Cardiff get Cardiffed.
Our set pieces have been poor all season, it used to be such a strength. 90% of them are completely wasted now.
Maybe we need to being in a specialist set piece coach.
Chambers doesn't seem to offer much of a threat in the opposition box - although the commentators were praising him for some "dark arts" when Ng scored against Milwall for our only set piece goal this season. He helped Ng lose his marker and then trucked the other defender completely out the way of the goal.
Luton and Norwich both looked like causing up problems from a set piece.
We seem to be putting Colwill on one of their centre backs quite often which is a disaster waiting to happen.
We need to sharpen up at set pieces ASAP at both ends of the pitch. It will make a big difference to our season if we do.

Re: Cardiff get Cardiffed.
When we signed Turnbull I looked at the Celtic messageboards and none of them were complimentary about him but posters there did concede that he was good at dead ball situations taking free kicks and corners. He did not have a good time last night in that respect as you point out. Kenilworth Road is such a cramped ground, there is not a lot of room to take a corner comfortably so I wondered if that was a factor. Some of his corners never really got past the near post some were ballooned past the far post. Our corner taking has been less than impressive since Whitts left and never that thought Joe Ralls was the answer either. Last Saturday I thought that Norwich's corners were well taken and very dangerous. A corner is a good opportunity and should not be wasted with a poor kick. I wonder what we do in training ?

Re: Cardiff get Cardiffed.
Not sure about that, we scored for fun from set pieces last season, the deliveries couldn't have been that unimpressive. I'm sure in other more recent seasons we have also found them quite lucrative.Originally posted by Enoch Mort View PostOur corner taking has been less than impressive since Whitts left and never that thought Joe Ralls was the answer either.
Agree with other points though, been dreadful this season in both boxes. Whether it's allowing quick corners against us repeatedly leaving two on one, not attacking the ball well enough (in either box) or some strange marking, it's an area that we have plenty to work on.

Re: Cardiff get Cardiffed.
There was one tackle by their german midfielder that was late and even though the ref played the advantage he should have booked him at the next break in play but he did nothing. I think it was Robinson he scythed downOriginally posted by Taffy Blue in Berkshire View PostThe ref last night was appalling and obviously had a WWF background. Obviously ok to wrestle someone to the ground and not get booked.

Re: Cardiff get Cardiffed.
El Ghazi should have scored with, I think, our first corner where the ball just flashed past the far post with no Luton defenders covering had it been on target. Other than that though delivery was poor, also the ref stopped us playing our short corner routine.
On their goal it's not the first time Brown has scored from a corner like that. I do wonder why we don't put Colwill by the near post to combat balls played to the near post.

Re: Cardiff get Cardiffed.
Meite won a couple of headers when he came on, and even made the keeper make a routine save, but was he actually effective in any real way?
City were struggling with Luton's physicality so brought on Meite and went more direct, but we actually got worse IMO following his introduction.
I'm not picking Meite out when everyone was off it, but the direct approach didn't work at all- we just gave possession away quicker- and I dont think bringing on Meite and playing long balls towards him is a viable 'plan B' going forwards.
Unlike Siopis , Robertson perhaps has enough technical ability to ensure City still have an attacking edge even when they're getting dominated by more physical opponents- hopefully he picks up where he left off on Saturday.

Re: Cardiff get Cardiffed.
That free-kick in the first half was in a good position. Ng, who has scored a couple of those in recent seasons wasn't allowed near it. Colwill has tried a couple without success. I thought Turnbull would've been a contender but it was given to El-Ghazi whose effort was poor. Are these things chosen by lots?
Edit: Just remembered Colwill put one in at QPR a while back but that's about it, I think.

Re: Cardiff get Cardiffed.
I don’t think he should either, but he was at least winning quite a few of his individual battles and if others had been more on their game, what he did may have proved more consequential-I’m not going to ignore a better performance from Meite just because he isn’t a personal favourite of mineOriginally posted by Dorcus View PostAgree with Meite. Re: Cardiff get Cardiffed.
I recall him being quite an influence in us beating the Jacks last season. He was almost unplayable at times, particularly in the second half. His scoring rate elsewhere isn't that bad, either. There is a footballer there somewhere. Maybe under Rizla we'll see more from him.Originally posted by the other bob wilson View PostI don’t think he should either, but he was at least winning quite a few of his individual battles and if others had been more on their game, what he did may have proved more consequential-I’m not going to ignore a better performance from Meite just because he isn’t a personal favourite of mine
