  • Stockport County v Wrexham

I tuned into this game around 20 minutes in and was glued to it right to the end. So much action, so little tippy tappy, for me far more entertaining than some of the sterile chessboard football in the PL.

However, my point is the talk is all about Wrexham's progress and their media profile etc, but Stockport have travelled even further up the football pyramid without the help of Hollywood. They also looked a much more capable team whereas Wrexham still had the look of National League side, lots of hoofing it away, big beefy players, and more agricultural than Stockport, who played some delightful football. I'm not sure how long the Wrexham circus will continue..

Stockport are owned by the owner of VITA. They've got some serious, serious backing. He's a billionaire.

Didn't know that. They seem to have bought better than Wrexham, look well balanced. Ollie Norwood was a good signing..

And yet Wrexham are third in the table with a point more and a game in hand over Stockport, who are fourth...

Not sure what you mean when you say Stockport have travelled even further up the pyramid. They're both in League One?

Stockport dropped into the National League North or whatever it was called at the time.

Yes indeed, but Monkfish claimed Stockport have “travelled even further up the football pyramid” than Wrexham, which is not really accurate. Travelled further within the pyramid perhaps, but they’re at the same level now.

"have had to travel even further up the football pyramid" would also have been suitable..

I was being a bit pedantic I think, so apologies for that, but it just struck me as a strange claim initially as Wrexham are currently above Stockport.

Good to see Stockport back in the league and doing well. My last trip there was for a bizarre pre-season friendly back in 2007 that City lost 6-4. That was a strange day.

I watched that game. Stockport absolutely battered them. I've only been to Stockport once. On a Friday night in the mid to late '80s. I think we lost 1-0 or drew 0-0. All I remember was that it was a disappointing result. I can remember standing behind the goal. I was trying to figure out which end it was. I don't remember that building in the corner, which I assume would have been there at that time. Anyone else remember?

I went to that one! Drinking around Edgeley Park was a surreal experience. Some of the weirdest pubs I've been to, with some of the weirdest clientele, too. I think I hear banjos.

                          94?

First game of the season? Handbags and fisticuffs.

Mind you there were several days like that up there

Most of our fans were completely leathered on strongbow
