  • Campervan repair advice

I've been offered a converted Renault Master van that's now a campervan.
My mate has a terminal illness and he wants me to have it as a gift.

He's not used it in 4 years as he had a problem with it running.

He was on holiday in it 4 years ago in Tenby and it broke down so he had a new fuel pump fitted in a garage in Tenby and managed to get it home OK.

A few days later he tried to start it but it wouldn't start unless he sprayed engine start into it and it would run fine until the top of the street but would then cut out again and not start.

He reckons it's definitely not contaminated fuel which would be my guess, and it was to far to take back to Tenby and get it sorted at the time.

He had a mechanic look at it quick and he thinks it could be the belt not lined up properly on the cam?
Sure that's what he said but I could be wrong.

Anyway, it used to run lovely and I've always wanted a camper van it's always been my dream, but after 4 years being stuck on his drive, is it potentially going to be a massive money pit spent on it to get it up running and Mot'd?

Also, where the heck would you take a van to get this problem looked at in Cardiff area?
I'd obviously need a flatbed to pick it up and drop it off.

What year is the van Bob?
Sounds like a headache and may well be a money pit .
You will have recovery and diagnostic check before you even start.
Both of which we can do in my garage , we have 5 tonne ramps so well sorted for working on larger vehicles.
We mainly deal with businesses , but do work for some of the posters on here , even MM and his family.
Send me a DM with your number , we can have a chat and I will try to advise you the best route to take with no obligation to use us .

I've got this incorrect, just spoke to my mate and it actually starts OK, it just cuts out once you get to top of the street but will start again on the key fine.

It was the power steering pump he had fitted and all the belts not the fuel pump. My mistake.
How the hell do you send a private message on this board? I've clicked on Jimmy the jocks name in blue but it says this page can't be found?

It does the same for me, but not when I click on your name.
          Are you on a phone?
There's a button near the top right that brings up a menu , one of the items on there is "Messages" and when you click on that there is a compose option.

I would avoid driving to the top of his street.

I was thinking this but I can only imagine it’s some sort of one way system / dead end

What if he parks in the road at the top of his street? Avoid the ‘top of the street’ hazard altogether.
