looks like he'll be out long term

Cardiff City midfielder David Turnbull faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after having surgery on a hamstring injury.

Cardiff City midfielder David Turnbull faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after having surgery on a hamstring injury.

The former Celtic player, 25, has missed the Bluebirds' past two Championship matches.

Right-back Perry Ng has also injured a hamstring but is not expected to be ruled out as long as Turnbull.

"Perry's got a problem with his hamstring and David has had an operation on his hamstring, so he's a long-term injury now. Perry we'll assess," said Cardiff manager Omer Riza.

"We've got a few injuries now and the squad is a bit thin but the boys are doing a great job to maintain the levels we need to get something from games."

We'd have so many more players to choose from if we could find a way of preventing / better treating hamstring injuries.

Leaving the goalkeeper aside, we must have a team we could pick from players with hamstring injuries by now.

Seriously, if people think that injuries to Turnbull and Etete are in some way holding the team back, then they need to have a good look at themselves in the mirror.

Well, they’re hardly helping are they. This is the worst season for injuries, especially long term ones, in recent years.

whether you like Turnbull or not an integral part of the first team squad so i thought it was worthwhile posting

He has played 29 games (according to Wikipedia which seems high - I’m assuming it includes subs appearances of which there have been many) and has played well in very few of them - he was good at Luton away.

I can’t agree that he is an integral part of the squad as his contribution so far has been meagre.

Our survival chances do not hinge on his availability. Just like they don’t on Ramsey’s.

Find myself in agreement with your assessment of Turnbull.

We've started to see the best of Turnbull with the change in manager. In a number of games, he's shown how he can help drive the team forward, and he's a danger around the edge of the opposition box. A real shame if he's out long term in my opinion

Tend to agree, never been his biggest fan but he’s done better under Riza.

He was never given any kind of run in the team previously. He seems to dovetail well with Robertson.

He was to attack minded for Bulut, same with Robertson, he could never trust either in a middle two.

                          Re: Turnbull Injury

He offers something we don't really have in the squad, comfortable on the ball, dictates the pace and can deliver a range of passes. Far enough he's lacking in some areas like boy to box endurance or physicality that might mean he's not ideal to start away at Leeds for example but he definitely can make us a better team on his day.

Turnbull is a decent player. He can more than hold his own in the Championship. A long-term injury will certainly impact his development at an age when he should be coming into his prime. So concern is warranted in my opinion.
