  • Betting - A Mugs Game ?

So I've enjoyed a flutter on both the horses, but mainly on the football in 2024, and thought I was doing OK only to discover I was £400 down over the year. I told myself thats it now, that's just plain stupid.

I liked to do a couple of horses over the xmas period and got lured in to backing Lossiemouth over Constitution Hill, then thought i would chase my loss with a 'tip' that would not be beat at Aintree, guess what ? Not even placed.

So after deciding enough was enough, I saw a 'sure bet' where Sky were offering a free £5 bet if you placed a 5p bet on Man Utd V Newcastle, no barainer ! But as my account was empty I chucked a tenner in, bet 5p on the draw and thought I'll put the £9.95 on a dead cert, at 1/100, giving me my money back plus a few pence. That dead cert was Chelsea with a 2 goal start V Ipswich..........awww bugger.

So my £5 free and last bet has gone on Plymouth, Cardiff and Man City to win their respective games. A long shot but, who knows.

You Win Some, You Lose More............

Doing Super 6 every week has made me realize how much of a mug's game it is (not that I've ever been a big gambler). Lucky to get one score right a week

Super6 is tough. My usual score is about 4-8

My daughter, who professes to know nothing about football, is about 40 points ahead of me this season

You need value and 1/100 isn't it as you know. Use the exchanges instead of bookmakers. Even lazy betting you will get better prices.

Nothing wrong with it if you only bet what you are comfortable with losing.

I should say probably isn't value, if it's 1/100 that ccfc will pick up a result today I'd put everything on.

I an 5 mates do a bet every sat. Pick one each, now we do both teams to score, haven't won a penny.
we used to do 6 wins but won so rarely we decided this would be easier
            WRONG!!
But we only bet a fiver each and the best part is the banter when 5 get it tight and one spoils it. Its the only gambling I do, except on guessing the wife's mood on any given day. (lousy at that too)

I was £1500 up on my PP account over the last couple of years . I only bet singles and take my winnings after every bet.

Lost about £1000 this week on the darts , betting Luke Humphries again and again as Peter Wright was pushing him , then Luke Littler to win 4-0 4-1 4-2 .

Its a mugs game but I enjoy a bet . The secret is not getting carried away or chasing your bets .
I broke both rules this week .

I assume you've backed the Scot (Wright) in the darts tonight, I like the guy but he's looking shaky at the moment..

No , got Littler to win it. Peter Wright has a very English sounding Scottish accent.

Back in th early 80s.My grandfather used to do two 5p wins and a, 5p double
He lost his eyesight so I used to take him in the bookies on a Saturday morning
Embarrassed by the small amount I used to put in 30p
                          His jockey was eddie hyde
One, Saturday we had two 33/1s winners
Ive often thought if we had betting in pounds we would have cleaned the bookie out

I did read up on him the other day , his mum was very young when she took him South , wasn’t his dad in the pokey ?
He chose to represent Scotland .

His darts dropped of tonight .
