  • Scoring first

Discounting Riza's first fixture in charge when we lost at Hull after scoring first, over our last 16 games (with a goal) with him in charge, this is our record:

Scored first: 8 times. Won 4, drawn 4, lost 0.
Conceded first: 8 times. Won 1, drawn 1, lost 6.

I wonder if those sort of extreme stats are also the same for other Championship clubs, always seems the first goal really sets the game up and teams struggle to get back into the game

Probably a similar trend for other teams, but I have no doubt our cutting edge and lack of striking options means that we're more doomed than most going a goal down, especially at home where teams will happily sit 10 behind the ball a goal up and hit us on the break.

The first goal is definitely important, and much more important to some sides than others

I think under Dave Jones we had a really good record of scoring first, but almost never got anything from the game when the opposition scored first.

Other sides have been more resilient to going behind.

If your attack is based around counterattacking then if the opposition scores first and is able to shut up shop then it's not going to be a fruitful day for you.

If we could develop the ability to shut up shop when we have a lead it'd be a great help to us

It’s more comforting to know we appear to WANT to score first now rather than aim to concede first as a deliberate plan under the clown Bulut.
