I hate to be pedantic, but the last time Wrexham played Workington Town was season 1969/1970. Which was probably before Rob Phillips was even born. I thought I'd check as I saw Workington's last actual league game v Newport County in season 76/77. County had to avoid defeat to stay in the league and Workington had to win. The match ended 1-1 which meant Cewnty stayed in the football league at Workington's expense.

... now should I be happy the guy missed or unhappy?
One things for sure, I'm bloody MAD!!!

I do genuinely like the guy though :hehe:
Most radio commentators do the same, though. Live football on radio seems to mean regular score updates from elsewhere, though this virtually never happens on TV.

That's a real shame, he loves football and it really comes across.

Wonder if anything was said behind the scenes, as I think it's strange in the middle of the season... Plus having to change the programme name at this point????

            Phillips said he was:

'relinquishing his role as the BBC Wales football correspondent and leaving the full time employment of BBC Wales after 28 years’.

But he'd still be part of the Radio Wales family (whatever that means).

That’s a real shame. He’s been a constant on radio wales in my years following the City and Wales :(

I have to admit though, I always now associate him with the gaff he made commentating on Cewnty vs Man U

He said the crowd are now singing “Anthony’s the greatest”

When in fact it was the Newport fans calling Anthony a rapist.

                  He soon realised his mistake.

With Marcus too hungover, Antony stars in an FA Cup win over Newport. And the fans are singing his name. Sort of. The BBC commentator tells listeners: "Antony’s the greatest is the latest chant. Oh no it’s not. Apologies." It turns out they were singing "Antony's a rapist". https://t.co/bGyQUKKZ4d

Real shame for me. Always enjoyed his radio commentaries especially for wales. His pieces in 2016 became a bit of a highlight. Very odd timing.

I guess that means he'll still do commentaries as a freelance, but without the full time responsibilities of being the top dog. I think Richard Shepherd did a similar thing when he stepped down years ago.

Dai Hunts fault for letting the cat out of the bag😂😂😂.

Is it true he's banned from home games (dai Hunt not rob Phillips)

Always found Richard Shepherd a bit strange. Rob Phillips, a decent bloke the few times I’ve spoke to him.
