    Re: Rob Phillips stepping down

    What happened to Richard Shepard?
He did the online commentary for a while and was a big hitter within the club

      That is sad to hear.

I think that he is really good.

Wasn't he the one who auctioned off a load of City's memorabilia and history in the last few years, possibly after some parting of the waves?

Shep was Radio Wales main football commentator in the early 90s (late 80s as well?) but moved on to HTV for Soccer Sunday. He was Real Radio's first football commentator, covering Swansea matches, while Phil Suarez covered our games (couldn't imagine Phil commentating on the Jacks somehow!), then Suarez was sacked in Feb 2001 and Shepherd was joined by Grahame Lloyd at Real. Suarez was our internet commentator after his Real Radio sacking until his untimely death in 2003, when Shepherd replaced him. Shep left Real Radio to replace Suarez and spent over 15 years commentating on us for the official site. He was also the club's historian and had been for many years.

Think there's a story here. Has he been pushed out by BBC cost cutting, or is there more?
            Strange he's gone now.

I loved his commentary on the Wales v Belgium Quarter final in 2016. He was losing it that night. Loved his passion. A proper old school commentator.

The "Jason and Rob Roadshow" (Perry and Phillips) is after the Supporters Trust AGM on 19th June if anyone's missing him.

Judging by his Twitter posts he's on Radio Wales quite often, just not doing the football.

I thought I'd check as I saw Workington's last actual league game v Newport County in season 76/77. County had to avoid defeat to stay in the league and Workington had to win. The match ended 1-1 which meant Cewnty stayed in the football league at Workington's expense.
Surely that was in the time of re-election rather than relegation so how did those circumstances come about???

I think if county had finished in bottom 4 they would have been voted out as they were living on borrowed time as it were. Workington were also perennial bottom 4’ers and paid the penalty that year.

I think you’re right, Wikipedia agrees with you as well.

What an escape by County, just two wins going into March, yet they ended up with five more than we managed all last season.
