Cardiff Corries, Merthyr, Hereford United (with a short loan spell at Workington in between) Then PSV Eindhoven where he won the UEFA cup, scoring in the 2nd leg of the final i believe, never prolific. Bizarre, but fascinating. Wouldn't happen today. That's all.....

Fair enough, i read it on a site about ex Merthyr players, although nothing on Wiki about him scoring. Crazy stuff mind, it would be interesting to find out how the move came about. I wonder if there was anyone on the PSV staff who knew Deacey. I'm trying to think of any other players who have had such a meteoric career rise in such a short space of time. Didn't Paul Lambert go from Motherwell to the champions league? I'd still put Deacey's achievement above Lamberts though, and Lambert was a player.Originally posted by Moodybluebird View PostComment

Interesting Bob, didn't really click for him in the UK (except at Mansfield) but then huge success in Holland, got to be something in that, do we have any experts on Dutch football during the 70s? I have a player who on first impressions, i have no idea how he went on to play at the level he did. Darren Peacock. I may have been a schoolboy or first year apprentice, i can't remember, this would have been 88 or 89. City were playing Hereford reserves at Ninian Park on a weekday afternoon, Darren Peacock was at the centre of defence for Hereford, who incidentally had Ian Bowyer playing for them, a four time European trophy winner amongst his league and FA cup wins (don't see that in u21 football :hehe:) Anyway, it was my job to sit in the Canton stand and throw the ball back to the keeper after another wayward City shot, so i had a good view of Peacock. Peacock had arrived at Hereford from Newport County after they had folded, and to say that i actually felt sorry for him is an understatement. His touch was non existent, he couldn't head the ball, run or pass the ball, i thought it was some kind of joke. Bowyer pulled him at half time.
He Obviously cemented his place in the Hereford team because he eventually got a move to qpr, and from their his big move to Newcastle under Keegan, where he was a regular challenging for the Premier league title. Which brings me to the conclusion that i know nothing...... Bowyer was 36 at the time, but he looked the fittest and best player on the pitch.Comment
