  • Collisions in 20mph zones

Here's a graph taken from the Welsh Government's own website. There's been lots of claims that there's been a dramatic reduction in collisions etc since the 20mph roll-out, but from my limited understanding of graphs, there's been a general year-by-year reduction since 2010 and that 2024 figures seem to be only continuing the trend (lock down excluded for obvious reasons).....

I thought it was a reduction in deaths and injuries that had been reported, not a reduction in collisions.

I would have thought that to die or get injured by a car, there has to be a collision, albeit with a person.

Ten according to the article, but I don't think that dilutes your point tbh.

100 fewer people killed or seriously injured. Doesn't say 100 people would have died.

Positive early signs but it will take a few more years of data to see how effective it has truly been. I'd say it's likely that changing the speed limit on a large amount of roads in one go would make drivers 'hyper-vigilant' and that could wear off over time. Will be interesting to see how the trend goes next year.

The one thing I do strongly agree with in that article though is how weird it is that deaths by car are treated as 'normal' . Imagine Cardiff Bus advertising 'only 6 passengers killed each month'

Has it? It's been claimed that it has, but it's never going to be conclusive.

I don't think Delm read the article he posted properly.

:hehe: Thats amazing seeing as everyone is driving the same speed as before except through the cameras, better brakes on modern cars maybe?

                          No :hehe:

There is no point in talking about it anymore, they do what they can to make life worse in Wales, make the most of your life, and don't let the bustards grind you down.

If the collisions are at 20mph there are few injuries or deaths than at 30mph

Not in my experience driving across Cardiff twice a day. Many vehicles exceed 20mph, but are doing less than 30mph. Before the change they would have been doing more than 30mph.
