Re: Scorchio !!!!
I expect they'll still tell us later that the UK was hotter than some random holiday destination on the Med.Originally posted by bobh View PostAt least they're not declaring today as "The hottest day of the year so far" as they have done many times this year, as wee moved from \winter, through Spring and (surprise, surprise) into Summer.

Re: Scorchio !!!!
I went to see my mum yesterday, she was stressing that its going to be hot today, I tried to explain its not a new thing , and as it happens, its just come up on my memories that 5 years ago today, it was 33 C, we should have been in the US, but couldnt go as the border was closed ( still covid restrictions )

Re: Scorchio !!!!
It's not a new thing, although it doesn't happen very often in the UK, so we don't build up resistance to it. Add in the humidity levels we see in this country, it can be quite uncomfortable.Originally posted by blue matt View PostI went to see my mum yesterday, she was stressing that its going to be hot today, I tried to explain its not a new thing , and as it happens, its just come up on my memories that 5 years ago today, it was 33 C, we should have been in the US, but couldnt go as the border was closed ( still covid restrictions )

Can't wait 'til winter when the temperatures 'plummet' . Haven't heard that phrase since February.Originally posted by bobh View PostAt least they're not declaring today as "The hottest day of the year so far" as they have done many times this year, as wee moved from \winter, through Spring and (surprise, surprise) into Summer.

Re: Scorchio !!!!
It will be a moving feast, of course. And all mapped land elevations and sea/coastal channel depths will have to be adjusted, the former decreased and the latter increased.Originally posted by The Bloop View PostWith each passing heatwave the average temperature rises, so I wonder how long it'll be until heatwave temperatures won't be above average? Instead they'll just be average.
By the way, did you know that Cornwall (where Newlyn is located and where mean sea level is calculated) experiences a phenomenon where the land rises and falls by about 10-15 cm twice a day due to the effects of the tides and the weight thereof?

Re: Scorchio !!!!
It generally is a different type of heat, it's usually less humid in Southern Europe. Humidity is horrendous because the body struggles to sweat out.Originally posted by Undercoverinwurzelland View PostAlso on your hot day bingo card - "I like the heat but the heat doesn't like me", and "it's a different kind of heat when you're on holiday isn't it".
