  • Question re: City's academy

Other than Mark Harris, are there any players that came through City's academy who are currently playing at either Premier League or Championship level?

Not a rhetorical or even a leading question - I was just looking at our squad stats from the last ten years earlier and couldn't see anyone other than Harris who is currently above League One level. However, there's every chance I've missed someone.

I can't think of one in England's Premier League or Championship.

But Declan John is still doing his stuff in the Scottish Premier League.

    (and Rabbi Matondo)

Semi Ajayi. He's at Hull. But we signed him from Arsenal.

Here's who i can think of over the past 20 years, i'll include Ralls even though he didn't come through our system, and i'm not going to remember any of the players who may have been given a game by Malky or Warnock, if there were any to start with.
                Earnie

                Collins

                Gunter

                Ramsey

                John

                Ledley

                Can't think of any others......

                  Andrew Hughes, plays for Preston.

Played in the academy between ages 7-15 before moving onto Newport.

Edit: looking at the ages, he probably left before graduating to the full academy. Wes Burns would also fall into that category - currently at Ipswich.

Good shout, although he didn't really come through our academy but rather was released from it at 15, which would have been as far back as 2007 if my calculations are correct.

We signed him from Middlesbrough. I don't think he'd been with us long before making his debut for the first team.

Yeah, correct, just edited my post.

Regan Poole at Portsmouth was in the academy though at the same age - just checked that on Wikipedia.

Salech could develop into a Jerome-type direct solid striker, that's what he should keep working towards.

Jerome didn't get enough credit in my opinion, quite a bit of criticism if memory serves. Maybe he wasn't with us long enough or lust didn't fit the profile for some of our fans in terms of him being local and the fact that at times he looked like he didn't give a ****.

Salech is a decent enough player, strong and to me he looks like he's thinking about things, maybe a bit too much on occasion. I do like him though, He's positive on the ball.
