This may explain a chunk of it:

Salaries and compensation for FIFA executives are detailed in the organization's financial reports. The most recent publicly available information shows the following:

      FIFA President Gianni Infantino:

      2023 Compensation:

Base salary: CHF 2,463,710 (approximately $2.78 million USD)

Variable salary (bonus): CHF 1,650,000 (approximately $1.87 million USD)

Total compensation: Over CHF 4.13 million (approximately $4.67 million USD)

Notes: His base salary was raised by 33% in 2023 following his re-election. His annual bonus remained the same as in 2022, which was a World Cup year.

      Other key positions:

FIFA Secretary General: The most recent reported salary for the former Secretary General, Fatma Samoura, was a total package of CHF 1.9 million (approximately $2.15 million USD), which included a base salary of CHF 1.3 million and a CHF 600,000 bonus.

      FIFA Council Members:

Senior Vice-Presidents and Vice-Presidents (who are also confederation presidents): Each receives a net annual compensation of $300,000, plus expenses.

Other FIFA Council members: Each receives a net annual compensation of $250,000, plus expenses.

      Independent Committee Chairs and Deputies:

Chairpersons of major independent committees (e.g., Governance, Audit and Compliance, Ethics): Annual gross base compensation is typically $250,000.

Chairpersons of other committees (e.g., Disciplinary, Appeal, Referees): Annual gross base compensation can range from $160,000 to $215,000.

Deputy Chairpersons: Compensation varies, but is typically lower than the chairpersons.

33% pay rise for Infantino - nice work if you can get it!

I paid £30 for a semifinal ticket in 1998. Although it was 27yrs ago, it was still value for money then. Those days have long gone.

That's a very sad read which saddens my heart. What's wrong with pints of beer?
