  • 3 week international breaks

Starting next year, the September break will be 3 weeks long and include 4 international matches, with the October break being scrapped. I can see the logic but that's a big old break just as the season's getting going.

BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team explain the major changes happening to football's international breaks starting in 2026.

I’d prefer it to stay as it is.

Particularly if you're a league 1 club that doesn't play whilst others do.

Same. And so soon into the season it will feel like a significant break just as clubs are getting going. I can't imagine club managers are happy.

Didn’t we have something like 20 odd players involved in the various age groups in this break? That’s a significant amount being away from the club for a long period. More rearranged night games for us fans or if you’re in the top two divisions, not rearranged as they’d be just blank Saturdays for the period. Are they wanting fans to drift away?

I think football stopped concerning itself about the fans that actually attend games a long time ago, unfortunately

I don’t know why the clubs put up with it. **** the international break.

I'd prefer it to go back to how it was. I don't like international breaks.
