I went to an FA Cup match between them back in 1984 when I was a student down there. The atmosphere was scary to say the lease. I think Steve Moran had just been accused of the rape of some Swedish woman. The stick he took all day was huge and if memory serves me correctly he scored a late winner for Southampton. Hell of a derby down there Bob as you say!!

It is a big derby.

If this is a slight dig at the actual big Derby today.😂 then don't kid yourself I've been to one and it is massive.

Somethings happened to Derby games in the last 10 yrs. They are all a bit tamer than they used to be. Even the biggest Derby in Britain, the Old firm game, seems watered down lately.

The game as a whole is pathetic. Atmosphere is so tame as well. Commentator trying to describe it as a cauldron. More like a library

Only because they barely let any away fans go…..it’s changed that one for sure

It seems to be one of these derbies that has only become more menacing since it became fashionable to hate your closest team. When Southampton won the cup in 1976 many Portsmouth fans attended the home coming parade to celebrate with their neighbours

The sport spent years trying to take the hostility and testosterone out of the game in the name of family friendly entertainment. Are you surprised it doesn’t just bounce back on a whim?

Not saying it’s not the right thing to do, but I’m not one for this faux atmosphere.
