Good stuff, as always. I mentioned in the Academy thread that Burnley probably just edged the u-21 game over the 90 minutes, it was a good game and we did well though. I make it there were 13 players who've appeared for the first team who didn't play last night for one reason or another but we still had a strong side out. Some excellent individual performances and a real competitive edge from back to front. No subs till Jake Davies got cramp and had to go off in injury time so fitness levels aren't a problem at that level.

It'll be interesting to see if BBM keeps dipping into that pool of players as the season goes on, he certainly doesn't seem that worried about burning first teamers out for now.

I know. It’s a terrible sin, and very selfish of me to suggest a Cardiff City manager shows a bit of vision and ambition and treats a cup competition with the respect it deserves.
It’s only gone and got us quickly back to winning ways and a juicy last 16 away tie. What the hell was I thinking?

Apparently Joel Colwill attempted 7 tackles against Burnley and won all of them - that's very impressive.
If he could do that regularly we would have quite a player on our hands.

I think he complements Wintle well in the middle. Wintle is very good positionally and has a good passing range - he seems to read the game very well - if one of our centre backs charges forward he immediately drops back to plug the gap they've left, and he often is the one switching the play when we have players in more space on the flanks. But he doesn't bring masses of "energy" to the midfield, and we can get out-worked in that area.

Joel is much more high energy, high work, has a great knack of arriving late into the box and is a pretty decent finisher. But he can get dragged around a bit positionally.
Together I think they make a really good pairing.
Better than a double Wintle midfield, or a double Joel Colwill midfield would be if cloining was allowed under efl rules.

And it was a weakened team as well, anyway.

Rubin fits in well with that pairing too, Kellyman could be very useful soon as well. Things are looking good.
