That reads like heÂ’s not doing enough in training to warrant the manager putting him in the squad let alone the team.

Ultimately BBM sees these lads in training every day and heÂ’s paid to pick the squad / team. Nothing wrong with that.

I think itÂ’s refreshing that a manager works like this and doesnÂ’t just pick his favourites regardless of how they work all week.

Could also be read that BBM wasn't getting the response he wanted from Davies, so took the decision out of his hands. I'm not saying that is the case, but managers want to hear a player saying that they can play, even when the manager knows that they can't or shouldn't. He's given Robertson a belting mind. Doesn't bother me.

Ive seen the full quote now and hes clearly game managing him due to his injuries so fair call.

And to be fair we should have had more than enough at home to Burton not to risk him.

I quite like the emphasis he puts on the training, he regularly brings it up in press conferences.

It may not be that unique these days but I don't think we have had someone like this for a long time.

He has mentioned everyone is judged on how they do in training. I think it breeds a far healthier atmosphere and competition amongst the squad.

And let's be fair, we don't really have a player that I think should get in the squad based just because he's just so much better than anyone else.

I agree with the general point you make.

Keep ‘em keen, but treat them fairly.

Trott could be considered more of a shoe-in than any other squad member.

They're clearly petrified of Davies getting injured again. He missed basically all of last season.

Robertson is working his way back to fitness, as well. He missed all of preseason. BBM talked about the importance of training and how much faith he puts in his sports scientist, Kevin Gibbons I think.
