Has anybody had any success with apps like Duolingo?

I took it in school and managed to get a c in my GCSE’s well over 30 years ago.

I’d love to start again with intent and I think that my Mrs would have a go so we could practice together.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

IÂ’m learning Welsh too as my son is likely to go to a Welsh school. I have found it much more difficult than I expected.

I have a much younger brother who is learning Spanish through Duolingo and is picking up very well

I think Duolingo is great for some people but different people learn differently.

I think Duolingo is great for some people but different people learn differently.

I hope that it becomes easier for you and then natural.

For me, I remember what certain words mean but have no idea on how to put them into a sentence apart from things like “Wedi blinon lan” which I’m sure I spelled incorrectly lol.

I also recognize words if I’m watching football on S4C but can’t remember what they mean.

I think that having a semblance of the alphabet might help me with pronunciation but I’m really looking to start again from scratch.

I’d love it if I can and hope to make it a New Year’s resolution.

Did Spanish on the lingo for a year, everyday, then they started bringing in ads and changing it, did my head in so jacked it in. It’s great though, I will crack back on it soon when I have the time as it’s sucks you in to the streak vortex….learnt more in a year than I ever did in 20 years before

I find Duolingo very tedious.

I found Duolingo painful. It didn’t work as I’ve forgotten pretty much everything I learnt. I think you need to be able to converse with someone to properly learn a language.

I tried and failed.I went to secondary modern school in the 60s,where they thought we were to thick to learn English Literature nevermind Welsh.

Times change.
I think it would be great if everyone could speak it in the future, without pressure of course.

Depends where you live. Most places have free Welsh courses. Contact your local Council Offices for details of classes. There are lots in RCT area. Check out S4C for online courses. Also check out Garth Olwg Centre for lessons in your area. I think you will get a lot more from learning in a group than from something like Duolingo. Pob Lwc.
