A couple of misplaced clearances last night but otherwise a very assured performance.

Re: Lawlor - fantastic potential.
Good thing we signed him up to a new deal in the summerOriginally posted by tforturton View PostHe's certainly getting a lot of exposure at the moment. I wonder if any club is readying a cheeky bid during the January window.
What do you think he's worth?

It would be interesting to know what people think that he does well as opposed to 'Good game' I think that he's composed, has that natural ability to give himself time on the ball, and he moves well with the ball into midfield. He's body mature as well, which is a big help. I can't say what he's like when he is turned or facing the 'Wrong' way. Ampadu is great with the game in front of him, not so good when he's turned or the play is condensed in a defensive third. There are similarities between the two in my opinion.

His reading of the game is very good so he's rarely turned, his positioning is generally spot on. The way he passes his excellent and translates well to the modern game, they aren't completions for the sake of it but he passes with purpose and pace, he trusts the midfielder's touch which means they can play on the front foot and generally plays the ball in front of them.to their stronger foot. When Cabango played against Belgium I think you saw someone who didn't pass with purpose and wasn't that comfortable on the ball. Sure the passes were completed so the stats look good, but often they trickled towards Davies or were behind him, which contributed to our left hand side not really working in that gameOriginally posted by Tuerto View PostIt would be interesting to know what people think that he does well as opposed to 'Good game' I think that he's composed, has that natural ability to give himself time on the ball, and he moves well with the ball into midfield. A season in League 1 will be great for him to get used to the men's game. He's played 13 league games in his career yet has already had a man of the match game at international level, that's impressive stuff. He will have ups and downs, Jason Perry made the good point that well run club wouldn't have waited until Lawlor was 19 to give him his first senior games, he'd have gone out on loan somewhere to make his early mistakes. He makes a similar point about Colwill, Ashford and others and I think he's generally right.

Whe i say turned, i mean not defending with the pitch and game in front of him, that's the hardest thing to master in my opinion, having that awareness of what is going on around you when you can't see it. I don't know how often he's been put in that position with us as most goals seem to come on the break against us, although like you say, he's only thirteen games in and i suppose it's best to concentrate on what he's doing well, the other stuff will rear it's head as he goes up the levels. Agree with your popints though and what Perry said.Originally posted by City123 View PostHis reading of the game is very good so he's rarely turned, his positioning is generally spot on. It's a fair point for Colwill and Ashford (especially Colwill, who I think is a year or two behind where he could be if he'd had a similar loan to his brother).Originally posted by City123 View PostJason Perry made the good point that well run club wouldn't have waited until Lawlor was 19 to give him his first senior games, he'd have gone out on loan somewhere to make his early mistakes. I disagree for Lawlor, though. Centre back is probably the toughest position to break through in as a youngster (apart from GK), and to have three senior caps at 19 is a great achievement. So I wouldn't say he's "behind" or that he's missed out on any development. I very much doubt if he would have got any game time on loan at a League 2 club and, other than getting bashed about a bit, I don't think he'd have learned much on loan somewhere like Weston-Super-Mare.
