Re: Best headed goal by a goalkeeper?
Whenever a keeper goes up for a corner at the end of a game they never seem to be marked. It's as if each defender already has a specific job to do and the appearance of the keeper throws a spanner in the works.

Zonal marking. Fails more than it succeeds, defenders are static.Originally posted by The Bloop View PostWhenever a keeper goes up for a corner at the end of a game they never seem to be marked. You think? How come there's not 10 set piece goals a game?Originally posted by Des Parrot View PostZonal marking. Fails more than it succeeds, defenders are static.
With man marking, the defender is always reacting to the attackers movement. They are ceding any advantage they have, basically.
With zonal marking, it's the attackers who have to work harder to get the advantage, and sometimes they will succeed of course. The main issue is that people only notice it when there's a goal
It's top level sport, it's analysed from all areas constantly. It wouldn't be used if there were no benefits.

That is the best reason to send a keeper up. It often causes panic amongst the defenders, although logically it shouldn't.Originally posted by The Bloop View PostWhenever a keeper goes up for a corner at the end of a game they never seem to be marked.
