  • Doncaster post match manager reaction

    Brian Barry-Murphy

“I like the character and mentality of the team to attack until the last minute.

"I felt as if we could create chances; there was no concern on my behalf about how we looked attacking-wise. We created chances throughout the course of the game.

"We have clear goal scorers throughout the squad. I had the feeling throughout the course of the game we would need goals to contain Doncaster, and that was the case.”

“We looked dangerous, and we can score goals. By how the team plays, you can see we’re not relying on any individuals.

"Yousef receives a lot of headlines, and Callum Robinson as well. But Joel scored, and Cian has really stepped up.

"I thought Cian carried us at times today when we were in real need of quality. When the game wasn’t perfect, he was the one who had real quality.

"We’re very pleased with him and all those players who can have to contribute because we can’t rely on one or two players too much.”

And on the match winner Joel Bagan

“He’s a very important player for us. When we play at our best, he creates a lot of our attacking movements.

"He has a creative left foot and helps create a lot. The focus has been on increasing his involvement in goals, and if he scores like he did today, it’s a bonus."

It was mentioned on their forum about our resources and million pound + players and McCann alludes to it as well. OK, Kellyman was once a £19m player (financial skullduggery allegedly). We had Lawlor, Bagan, Davies, Kpakio & Ashford involved, all academy lads. We’re hardly Man City.

You're right. I think it will be a Get Out Of Jail Card for a lot of managers who lose against us (our resources etc.).
I thought their manager gave a good post-match interview in all fairness.

It's difficult these days as concrete fees are rarely quoted when players are signed, but I'm pretty sure Robertson, Robinson, Turnbull and even Osho are £1 million-plus players, while the wages we laid out of bring in the likes of Chambers and Willock would have been considerable. I don't think there's much doubt (if any) that we have bigger resources than any other side in the division this season apart from maybe Luton. Given that we flirted with relegation for several seasons, I think we were maybe a bit fortunate to drop when we did.

And wasn't there a 5 million bid from Norwich for Perry NG?

There will be after last night, but they'll have to up it to £15 million. At least.

I was thinking about this thread last night. Glen Williams posted on Facebook that Chelsea's bench was worth £386 million and ours was worth £6 million. I can't imagine many other League One clubs could match that.
