  • How many fans do we have?

The other day got me thinking. 30,000 Cardiff fans in the stadium cheering us on. Maybe about 1-2k neutrals with absolute no affiliation either way in amongst that 30,000 but the vast majority would have been people that have a slight affiliation to the club at the very least. And there would have been more who werenÂ’t there with similar affiliation at the very least but how many?

    Hypothetical Question

If we had a play-off final at the Principality Stadium next season to get to the Premier League and the oppositions fans were banned allowing us to have as many tickets as we wanted - do you think we would sell the stadium out?

With real City fans? No. With friends and family and those just interested in a day out? Maybe.

Well my close family used to have 9 season tickets, we all went to Wembley together 3 times. today I’m the only one.
My sons, nieces, cousins have married, moved away, don’t have the funds etc. That 9 with new family members would probably make it at least 12 “fans” under the circumstances you describe.

Yeah I was counting everyone who maybe supported Man United but had an affiliation to Cardiff due to home town club etc.

Maybe people who had been to a game in the last 3 years as a barometer. I think we’d fill in Principality for a Championship play off final in those circumstances, fall 20k short for a league one play off final though

I don't see it, particularly league 1. I'd say pricing could so some way to help but opposition more so and in league 1 that's not a thing for your local man u plastic.

In the champ I twice gave season tickets to friends and on both occasions despite saying they would go they didn't end up using them. One time funnily enough because man u were on tele.

It’s simple really depends on what league and what success your having at a particular time
Pembroke for example when we were in premier league I could name you dozens of people who travelled to watch Cardiff regularly now in league one apart from me and my wife I can now only name one other person
If we get back to the premier league and on top of that were successful I believe you would struggle to get tickets

I’ve always thought a fan is a person who either lives in Cardiff, or who’s lived in Cardiff and moved away, or has an affiliation through parents, family etc, who takes a passing interest and looks out for our results every week. A fair weather fan is a person who attends games every now and then.
A supporter is a person who actually attends home games regularly, financially supporting the club. I’d describe a “real” City fan (if we’re using these terms) as a supporter who attends home and away games regularly. Only my opinion though.

The fact is we’re currently the third-best supported club in League One.

A colleague of mine (and a season ticket holder) swears Cardiff only has a solid core base of around 2,500 fans, and the rest come and go as we move up and down the leagues. My argument is that you have to count season ticket holders - so at present, we have a fan base of around 14,000. But as one previous post says, we have a lot of 'followers' who might not attend regularly, but could be tempted when things are going well.
When we were in the Premier, I believed we should have been selling out every game, and it was always a disappointment when we didn't.

We have clearly moved on from the hard-core of 2500.

Moved up the leagues , better facilities , little hooliganism , more family friendly.

I bet your colleague was there when we were getting the crowds in the 2000s everybody I've met over 40 was as well. Great days superb atmosphere united fan base. Brilliant stuff.😂
