Re: Bristol City and Turnstiles
November or December 1989, I was arrested at that game by a copper named officer Jelly, I kid you not. Three visits to court in Bristol, got off, the jelly man didn't turn up to give evidence. I was innocent anyway...Originally posted by Toadstool View PostDoes anyone know which game the above happened at - I thought it was about 1988 when the turnstiles collapsed / got demolished

Re: Bristol City and Turnstiles
December 89. I came down from Manchester to visit my cousin who was at uni in Bristol. We got frogmarched all the way to the train station when he lived about 10 minutes from the ground. Later that night me, him and his younger brother got in a fight with some Wurzels at a student party.
Mad mad day

Re: Bristol City and Turnstiles
A vicious day all round. It was a cold and damp December afternoon. There had been serious trouble all day. During the game City fans smashed the gates in to the Dolman stand where the Bristol city hooligans were. At the end of the game some city fans dismantled the turnstiles while we were being kept in. It was carnage with people launching concrete blocks at the police and passing Bristol City fans. I'm sure that a polite woman was badly injured. The police went rogue once we were let out, just grabbing anyone and arresting them. I always remember this really young kid stood on the concrete roof of the turnstiles and just launching bricks and concrete at the police, think he was only 15, got 4 years in a young offenders unit. It was a scary day.Originally posted by NYCBlue View PostI don't remember that. I don't even remember hearing about it. Was this to get into that uncovered away end? What happened?

Re: Bristol City and Turnstiles
I was at the top of the terrace watching it unfold. During the game there were a few minor spats down by the gate separating us from them. After the game a gang of them came down the road leading to the away turnstiles. We were, as was the norm then, kept in for a while after the whistle, so our lot stayed where we were for a grandstand view, overlooking proceedings. City fans were clamouring to get out and eventually discovered that the ‘building’ that enclosed the turnstiles was not up to building regs. All sorts of rubble was being launched over the top into the street. Bristol fans retreated rather sharply when they realised a professional demolition team were in action. We all left, what really was Trashton Gate, quite safely and made our way home.

I don’t think it was scary , not at the time anyway. Mind you one funny bit was when they closed the gates by the Dolman Stand with a few mates of mine behind enemy lines :hehe:

Re: Bristol City and Turnstiles
Yup, that happened, my mate was caught up in the locked gate and got a few whacks off the police and Bristol city fans. I got to Bristol at 11am, three of us, we were running the gauntlet all day. There was an incident on the road along the river where around 15 city fans, outnumbered, emptied a skip full of bricks and rubble towards a large group of Bristol City fans who just wanted to say hello ... I was certainly scared that day, especially before the gameOriginally posted by Mr Ducie View PostI don’t think it was scary , not at the time anyway. Re: Bristol City and Turnstiles
I was disgusted to see that the Bristol builders who had built those turnstiles had mixed imperial with metric. The perps were like the back end of a door wedge.
