Have you ever seen one live?

in all my years supporting Cardiff I never have.
there was about 5 minutes against Chelsea where I thought we might get to see one

Three that I can remember:

1997: a dreadful Auto Windscreens Trophy game against Exeter at Ninian. Attendance: 793, and it was freezing. Carl Dale scored a late equaliser to make it 1-1. We lost on penalties after extra time. I think it was 3-0 to Exeter. Terrible night.

1999: a League Cup game at QPR. City won on penalties after winning 2-1 (we'd lost 2-1 in the first leg).

2010: the play-off semi against Leicester linked above.

There may have been others, both those are the three that spring to mind.

Reading away in FA cup around 97/98. A bitterly cold night and the extra times and pens were not welcome:

Of course. I saw a replay of that in the build-up to the Chelsea game last week and still forgot it.

Also the semi finals against Palace and we also did beat Leicester in the 3rd round in pens as well in the same competition that year.

There were others - the three League Cup ties in 2011/12. So I've seen six in total.

I'm amazed Rjk didn't see the play-off semi or any of the League Cup penalty shoot-outs?

I was at the Bournemouth vs Cardiff 3-3 in 2004. I think that was the first penalty (ies) that Neil Alexander saved.

I was at City's very first penalty shoot-out against Dynamo Berlin in the first round of the Cup Winner's Cup in 1971. Sadly, Don Murray sent his pen soaring over the bar and we were out.
