One of the very best things BBM has done since he arrived here was identify that the goalkeeping position was a significant weakness and bring in a quality solution.
It’s impossible to calculate how many less points we’d have now if the manager had done what many fans wanted and stuck with Alnwick, but I don’t believe we’d be top of the league if he hadn’t made the change.

Alnwick has been home in the north east for 2-3 months for personal reasons. I assume that would have been the case even if Trott hadn’t arrived. In which case we would have played the first half of the season with Horvath? Doubt we would be league leaders if that had happened. Although Sheffield Wednesday would still be in. bit of trouble!
Alnwick a solid keeper - but does not fit the BBM profile at all. Playing out from the back would be the gift that kept on giving for the opposition.

There’s a regular contributor to the feedback section of my blog who is good a spotting a player (eg Tarkowski when he was at Oldham) who swears Alnwick is the best keeper at the club and is better with his feet than Trott.

Trott has not been without fault but very very few goalkeepers are.
I think he has a weakness on crosses, but that doesnt seem as important these days as being able to play with ball at feet and distribution.
Great shot stopper as well.
Will reserve judgement as to how he compares with Marshall , Heaton, Etheredge etc.

A couple of weeks ago BBM said he is back in Cardiff and has started training.
