Mame 32 Help

Many years ago I used to have a pc with a CD Rom called mame 32 which ran all the old arcade games like pacland and kung FU master etc.

I'd love to get another setup similar but have no idea how I'd go about setting it all up on a cheap pc I would buy.

Anyone in Cardiff area have any idea how to set it all up if I was to buy a cheap pc and a cd from with mame on it?

I set it up once a long time ago but don't think I'd be confident of doing it these days. Not very computer illiterate anymore.

How much would it cost to get it all setup with a couple of joysticks?

Bought a cheap USB once with all the games installed but it was rubbish. To slow, it didn't react in time to when you actually moved the stick.

Any advice much appreciated but without all the jargon. Lol

I've downloaded games and consoles to my phone just type emulation into Google should give you a starting point.

Mame32 is now dead but you can download Mame for free from https://www.mamedev.org/.

Also you are probably picking the worst time to pick up a new PC as the price of some components is rocketing due to companies chasing the AI dollar and shortsightedly forgetting AI needs paying users for it to be financially worthwhile.

There’s a very cool retro-gaming shop on Salisbury Road, Cardiff, called Super Tomato. They’ve been there for a long time, and they know their stuff. Might be worth a look if the other suggestions don’t work out.

its now called Mame 64 and is still working, if i remember correctly the mame 64 download was from one site and the roms you had to download from a different site

may I suggest a different animal

its Batocera, its a external drive ( they can come on USB pen drives ) plugs into a USB drive and you just boot from that drive on any PC and its all done, Mame is on it, aswell as all the older consoles, the one below ive linked is 500 gb, but you can them from Ali express on a USB for £12 ( but its shipped from china etc ), this will run on any PC or Mac

a HDMI stick arcade setup

comes with Mame and loads of other emu's, I sold some before Christmas ( I got them from Aliexpress ), it'll be running retroarch ( I guess ) , comes with 2 wireless controllers, I know you said you had one a while back, but these are decent now, will run mame very easy and is almost plug and play

its slightly cheaper on eBay at £26, but this in from amazon, buy it, try it, if its crap, free returns

As already mentioned, Mame32/64 has always been freely downloadable from their website. The ROM images from the original arcade machines are however copyrighted material. You’re only entitled to a copy if you own the original arcade machine. So, if you’re after those images, you need to track down some dodgy website at your own risk.

1st option from a PC, just boot it from the USB drive

2nd option, just plug into and TV ( with HDMI port , which is anything less than 15 years old )
