On 'Match of the Day' last night Wolves fans were paying tribute to Terry Wharton who has died aged 83. To City fans of a certain age that name should certainly ring some (alarm) bells. Between 1962 and 1970, Wharton scored 11 goals against us in 11 league games for Wolves and Bolton which, without any detailed research, makes me think may be the most of any opposing player in our history. One contender for that 'honour' that sprang to mind was Ken Wagstaff of Hull but checking it out, his record was 10 goals in 17 league games against us between 1966 and 1974 although he did score one for Mansfield Town in a League Cup tie in 1961. Anyway, RIP noble opponent.
