Brian Barry-Murphy addressed the press at Cardiff City Stadium ahead of Saturday's trip to Brisbane Road.
With the reverse fixture being a 4-3 thriller in the Welsh capital earlier this season, Brian now expects another stern test from the O's.

“We’re expecting equally as difficult a challenge,” Brian began. “They’re a very dynamic team and have been very successful over the past couple of seasons with their brand of football and saw how many difficulties we had against them in the game at CCS, and no doubt this Saturday will be equally as tough.

“It’s clear how dangerous they are and how potent a team they are. The focus is on ourselves to be better than we were in the corresponding fixture and prove that we have improved from that, because we need to.

“This week has been a chance for us to recover from the intense Christmas period, but it moves pretty quickly and we’re going to train this afternoon and check in on everyone."

Reflecting on the first half of the season as the second gets underway, Brian emphasised his desire for continued improvement throughout the squad.

“It has to be one game at a time for us," he continued. "We have a very young squad and we have some very valuable well experienced members, which is beneficial as it means that we don’t get too carried away or look too far ahead.

“We have to maintain our progress and improve. All of the players in our team can improve a lot individually, and if they do that then the team will get stronger and we’ll win the games that we need to win.

“The players have adapted really well and I’m very grateful for what they’ve done, but they understand the minute we stand still in this game we start to not progress at the rate that we expect and demand.

"We can improve a lot; we created a lot of chances in the previous games and didn’t take enough of them, and we had a clean sheet last week but want more of that. We want to become a much more efficient team at converting chances we created, and creating more of them to be more successful in the second half of the season."

Providing an injury update on the squad, Brian concluded: “Cian Ashford had a dead leg in his calf, so he’s a doubt for the weekend, and Dylan Lawlor came off with some fatigue-related hamstring issues, so we’ll check on him.

"The rest of the squad is in a pretty good place off the back of those games, so we’re really keen to train exceptionally well today and tomorrow to give us the best chance to play really well on Saturday and try to win.

“Rubin Colwill is back running on the treadmill, so we expect him to be on the grass next week. Eli King is doing some straight running, so both are making exceptional progress, albeit with different timescales based on the severity of their injuries.”

What a refreshingly simple summary of the situation as, is. None of the utter balderdash most managers spout, well done gaffer.
Oh, Rubin and Eli, best of luck in your rehabilitation!

Watching the video of the conference interesting what he says about Bagan wintle and ng's contracts - asked directly if he wanted them to stay didn't give a direct answer of yes but said something to the effect of there are many moving parts and he is happy with them now - wonder if they have been offered contracts but want to wait to see where we play before signing - be amazed if we don't want to offer them extended contracts?

        I'm sure we would.

At the start of the season it would have been hard to see them being 3 of our most consistent players.

That bit was interesting wasn’t it, you have to think that the fact that clubs can now approach the three players with a view to offering them contracts to begin this summer suggests that they might be holding to see if we go up or not.

I would assume so because surely we would want to tie down Bagan at least in the same way we have with other younger players??

Wintle and Ng have both recently said publicly how much they are enjoying their football at the moment but the lure of a higher league if we don't go up, with them being free is a strong position for all three of them to hold

I get the impression we hold all the cards with these three renewals; the 'manager effect' seems to have them ready to commit immediately. However, you have to wonder if the delay is strategic. Is it a budget issue, or is the board holding off to see if they can recruit a different level of talent once our Championship status is (hopefully) secured this summer?

Bagan, I think, will sign in the next few weeks/months.

Wintle has been exceptional lately , would be one of the first names on my team sheet , NG much improved almost curbing his irritating habit of trying to scrap, rather than play football, which he can be pretty good at .
Bagan is also an asset to the team.

Maybe they're waiting to see if BBM is poached by another club before they sign a new contract, don't want to go back to the dark days... Although I doubt it

With us now in the period where other clubs can approach the players, they hold all of the cards surely?

Maybe it's even, they probably would prefer not to have to move, and all seem to be loving playing under BBM, and they fit the team perfectly at present, but what does the club have in mind for next season? Will there be a big refresh, Wrexham style, for the higher level?

There could be something in that; they are loving life now, but the thought of another Riza would give them nightmares. It should be a factor they are considering.

non efl clubs can approach them and sign a pre-contract agreement, but EFL teams can only do it in the last month of their contract if they are at another EFL club
