  • Joint lowest for penalties

Niche statistic, but was thinking I can't remember us getting a penalty in ages.

Halfway through the season & joint-lowest in the division along with strugglers Port Vale, Doncaster etc on 1.

Possibly just a coincidence? I think apart from Ashford our wingers can look a bit passive and reluctant to 'drive' into the box and take on the man at times. Does seem odd given we're the 2nd highest scorers and get 60-70% possession most games, more touches in opp box....

Salech should have had ten from drag downs, but they are ignored.

Was thinking this the other week and it's a bit confusing as our wingers do get a lot of the ball, often cutting inside. We seem to have a good amount of touches in the box and possession of course.

Possibly a reflection on how well the players find space and release the ball quickly, before an opposition player has had chance to get close. Also, I dont think Salech is the type of player to go down at the slightest touch.

Are our younger players as quick to “go to ground” (dive in Oldham money) when they feel contact in the penalty area? There’s been one or two occasions when I’ve thought players like Ashford and Joel Colwill could have got a penalty if they’d fallen.

Giving a positive spin we have scored 43 goals this season and haven't relied on penalties

There was one recently ( maybe Doncaster at home) where Ashford probably could have gone down but stayed on his feet and set up a goal ?? Salech scored maybe? 😂😂 Lots of maybes but my memory is not that good

I think a factor might be that we have 6’ 5” forward and refs just can’t seem to accept that he gets manhandled every game.

We all know he's a big boy!! but i've not seen him manhandled every game, Pretty sure there would be more wives at the game if that was the case

                    Re: Joint lowest for penalties

Agree it's probably partly due to personnel. Salech hardly gets anything from the refs given his size, plus he doesn't seem the type to throw himself to the ground.

A quick look at the last two seasons and both the champions (Birmingham in 24/25 and Portsmouth in 23/24) got 13 pens each!

We'll be cruising once we get our share...

maybe they are just a bit more athletic?

Last season, Birmingham City, who finished top, were awarded 13 (THIRTEEN) penalties.

Was it against Stevenage that he got shoved in the back only for the ref to give the foul against him?

How many penalties have we conceded in League One? Anybody know?
