  • Away fan friendly pubs in Cardiff

I work in Stockport, a number of friends are heading down on Saturday and are asking me for advice about away friendly pubs. Having never been as an away fan, I really have no idea.

Which pubs in the city centre and near the ground are away friendly?

How welcoming are pubs in the centre to away fans? My recollection is The Prince of Wales is a no-no. Is that still the case?

What about the classics? The City Arms, Bluebell type pubs. These should be fine for a small, sensible group.

    What about Canton?

Are there any pubs that aways fans should avoid?

    Thanks

They could go almost anywhere in the city centre or bay, along with 1000’s of others out for the day…..

        It’s a 12:30 kick-off. Just saying.

They'll be fine anywhere in town if they're not dickheads .

Is the Walkabout still designated an away pub?
No self-respecting City fan would go there anyway.

I think the Great Western has become the place. I am often in town on Saturday lunch times before games and am always surprised at the lack of away fans though, especially as we are led to believe that this is one of the more attractive away trips for people.

I havent noticed any pub heaving with away fans at all, bar the Great Western. I do see the odd few. I would have no hesitation saying they would be fine in places like the Cottage, Bluebell, Old Arcade, City Arms, Queens Vaults etc, esp for a fixture like this.

In Canton I think The Lansdowne is cited as away friendly but it's been all City fans when I've gone there. I have seen the odd away fan in The Grange too.

I do genuinely find it a bit odd mind. I think our reputation lingers and people don't wear colours

I’ve often seen away supporters in the Ivor on many occasions

Whichever pub in town they’d choose, they’d have to be leaving for the ground about 11.30/11.45 am, would it be worth it? The Wetherspoons pubs are open early but would anyone consider leaving Manchester even earlier on a Saturday morning just to go to a pub?

The odd fan yeah, but like I said, I don't really notice pubs heaving with away fans. (Apart from the Great Western). I guess many stop off in Monmouthshire or something and then head straight to ground too.

I'm fact, where in south Wales is a traditional coach stop for fans heading to here, Newport, Swansea etc? Some small villages do very well out of it.

The Prince of Wales does have some lovely architectural features

Just don’t accept the offer of dipping into his packet of Butterkist from the bloke sat next to you

This is why I mentioned the kick-off time - it means many of the pubs in the city centre are out of the equation. Unless Taffster was thinking of post-match drinks?

Watch Sky Sports and BT Sports at Les Croupiers Casino Sports Lounge in Cardiff. The Croups Sports Lounge has become very popular for Cardiff City fans.

                            Casino says away fans welcome.

the beauty of not wearing club colours is that you can go in pretty much any pub on your away days, you just have to keep to a small group and behave like grown ups..

for example, a good few years ago a group of us (including splott parker and olderblue) were in the 'strictly' home fans pub by the cricket ground prior to a Nottingham Forest game and were absolutely fine, in fact we had a good time with the locals.
