  • Manager comments as Cardiff beat Barnsley

    Brian Barry-Murphy:

“I’m over the moon with the result and the performance.

“We did a lot of work on Barnsley and we prepared in a very detailed manner, so the players understood how big the challenge was. I'm very pleased.

“I think naturally when the scoreline is what it is at the end, it can feel like an easy night but it was a very difficult first half for us. We scored really early but Barnsley posed a real threat and I think most of the goals came from when they had possession.

"We were very aggressive in how we tried to win the ball back and attack quickly, which is something that we've needed to do better at this season. I'm very pleased with the performance, while understanding for a long period of the game that it wasn't as easy as the scoreline would suggest."

    On Chris Willock:

“I’m very clear on how much of an impact he can have. There’s so much improvement in him that we can help him make.

“I’m very keen to get ninety minutes into Chris and push him physically because the way he plays the game is very dependent on feeling very strong and well-conditioned.

"It makes him a very exciting and important player for us moving forward.”

    And on injuries:

“Yousef has had positive news on the initial scan. I think he’s having some further tests but he’s still in discomfort.

“Dylan [Lawlor] has damaged his medial ligament. The scan suggests it’ll be between two to three weeks before he plays again.”

In fairness to Conor Hourihane in that interview he mentions the potential red card and the penalty shout but doesn’t make too much out of it and was full of praise for the Cardiff performance

Agree he didn't look to deflect - not sure about the pen even having seen the highlights ( certainly couldn't tell in the ground last night) but Robertson should have gone and wise for BBM to replace him - didn't the same happen at Wycombe

The Robertson pull back was absolutely identical to the Wooton pull back on Saturday, both were on a yellow card & should have gone. It worked against us on Saturday & for us last night. Consistency by accident!

Good point and adds evidence to the notion that things even themselves out over the season

More important for me as a city fan is the risk Robertson runs having being subbed twice now to remove the risk of him being sent off

Robertson is a bit of a liability picking up all these yellow cards. Having said that the one he picked up yesterday was never a yellow. He tried to avoid contact and one of our defenders was getting to the ball before the Barnsley player.

I think the referee thought he’d made a wrong decision and that influenced him in not giving a second yellow card.
