  • King Ronnie: Manager of the Century

Rotherham United will officially crown King Ronnie Moore as our Manager of the Century just before kick-off of this weekend’s Sky Bet League One hosting of Cardiff City.

Ronnie was voted as our Greatest Ever Manager at the Centenary Celebration Dinner that took place last year, but was unable to attend as a result of conditions surrounding his treatment at the time for Myeloma - a type blood cancer.

The outpouring of love towards our universally revered former boss has been nothing short of what we expected, not just from Millers supporters, but from fans of clubs across the EFL who knew their team were in a battle when coming up against one of Ronnie’s - and Breck’s! - teams.

That is exactly why we know that there is nobody better placed than the King to meet the next tough test head-on with the same vigour, resilience and determination that has defined both his professional and personal life to date.

We have selected this weekend’s clash against the Bluebirds, in which two of his former clubs meet, to retrospectively ‘crown’ King Ronnie as just that – our Greatest Ever Manager, as was voted by fans in the room on the night of our Centenary Celebration Dinner.

Our messaging from Day One of Ronnie’s diagnosis is that we are ‘right with him’ and whilst we have remained in contact throughout his journey so far, we want this weekend to be a powerful reminder to the man himself of just how loved and respected he truly is.

We are asking Millers fans – and those joining us in the away end from Cardiff City – to make sure they are in their seats as the teams come out of the tunnel on Saturday.

The presentation will take place as Matt Hamshaw’s Millers take to the turf at AESSEAL New York Stadium just before kick-off to ensure that we maximise the strength of the message to Ronnie with as many people inside the ground as possible.

We would of course, love to see as many of you filling the stands for Ronnie as we can and, without question, encourage you sounding your appreciation with songs from The Tivoli of old to really hit home the message that we are indeed, right with Ronnie.
