The large majority of supporters who responded to the survey reported on in the link see midfield as the area most in need of changing in the side and yet the signs are that we'll go into the new campaign with Ralls, Pack, Vaulks and Bacuna as we look to bring in new players elsewhere.

I answered the survey, saying that midfield was the part of the pitch most in need of new players, that we needed up to ten new players and that improving the quality of football played should be a priority. i was out of step with the majority when it came to the last two of the criteria, but I'm not sure that there is too much of a difference between wanting to improve the quality of the football and bettering the quality of the first team because I don't see the latter happening while we have the present midfield four and the former won't either.

The four midfielders mentioned are too similar, they’re too ponderous, inaccurate, not incisive and not measured.

I guess it depends on how you interpret "needs attention". We're told we have limited budget, have four experienced CM's for two or three positions but only two specialist full-backs with one of those being a 19 year old who has played fewer than 10 games at this level.

But to answer you original question, based on the paragraphs below, the City fans who answered this survey are wrong. But that's probably in part because Walesonline stuck up names for that question to limit choice...

And, lastly, we asked fans to tell us which player they would most like to see signed. The top two were Josh Windass and Adam Reach, who earned 36 and 18 per cent of the vote respectively, however we now understand that neither of those players are Cardiff targets.

However, interestingly, Jonson Clarke-Harris of Peterborough United was just a whisker behind with 15 per cent of the fan vote.

Given the season the striker has just enjoyed, having just scored 33 goals in all competitions, he will likely cost a pretty penny for whichever side comes in for him.

That team, therefore, is unlikely to be Cardiff City, who are implementing strict cost-cutting measures this summer.

Unless the fans get their way in terms of improving the first team CM options there will not be a big promotion push or more entertaining football next season, however it feels as if the the club is least likely to invest in midfield because it doesn't make sense* based on a limited budget.

*unless you successfully change the primary position of at least one player which is probably why everyone but Vaulks was tried in a second or even third position over course of the year.

If the top 2 players we want are Windass and Reach yes then City fans are wrong.

We need more creativity though in the middle. I really dont think looking at Sheffield Wednesday players is the answer and definitely not Adam Reach.

If we don't improve the starting midfield we will struggle next season. I would be quite happy to see all of, Pack, Ralls, Vaulks and Bacuna leave.
They are slow in thought and deed, cannot pass and seldom surge forward with the ball.

I'm struggling to see how central midfield is the part of the squad most in need of new signings. We clearly need to add a couple of defenders and another winger or attacking midfielder before addressing other areas of the pitch.

Of that lot, the first eleven will probably all be still here come the start of the season. Of the next ten players, I suggest that only half of them will remain, which leaves plenty of room for a couple of midfield maestros. Problem solved.
