  • Colwill

Who this guy ? Been a fairly mediocre hard working footballer ... Suddenly he is a game changer , his work rate is incredible, his last few games he has been a revelation.

I was disappointed when they took him off for his brother today (Who was decent when he came on ). Best player on the park for me amongst a fair few top performances . Can we dispel the threat of Luton now? .... sorry William ...

I actually see it as a compliment that he waa taken off in the sense that the job was done and he's going to be needed for the run-in.

I also thought it was good management to bring Rubin on at that stage having been injured for so long.

On BBC Radio Wales, Iwan Roberts gave Joel lots of plaudits but then finished it off with "...but he's not as good as his brother".

This was rebuked by Gabbs who said that they're becoming a different type of No. 10.

    I agree with Gabbs.

Rubin has masses of talent and was working harder than he used to before his injury but we never quite know what we will get from him - this season certainly more than last and more often.
Joel is dependable. He has a great engine, gives everything and proved once again today that he his talented. His run into the area with four players around him, his skill holding onto the ball and clever pass showed his tenacity, skill and vision. His goal after picking up the ball, running forward with it, perfectly placing the ball from distance also showed his confidence. If I had to select one to be in team on current form it would be Joel. Thankfully there is room for them both.

Joel's assist for Turnbull was superb, he had Luton players almost hanging off him and they couldn't stop him.

Rubin almost also had a great assist, only the keeper stopped Robinson from getting a fourth goal right at the end after Rubin's perfect cross.

I remember Danny Gabbidon a few years saying he thought Joel could be better than his brother. They are different types of players but again today Joel was outstanding. Rubin definitely gives us something nobody else does that ability to create something from nothing. We really do have some exciting talent at the club

Joel’s game has developed rapidly this season and he’s put in some genuinely impressive performances of late. It’ll be interesting to see how he copes with the step up to the Championship next season. I’m pretty confident he’ll take it in his stride, I think he has all the right attributes.

I wasn’t a fan of him because I always thought him slow footed, a bit lightweight and a something of nothing player.

But I’m pretty much always wrong on matters of football and happy to be so too.

Well, I’m like you as until the last two games I had Joel down as good enough for this league, but behind Wintle, Robertson and Turnbull in the central midfield pecking order, but he’s got me rethinking that after his last two games.

He was the best player on the park today. As others have said taking him off when the game was done was sensible.

He had bump a few minutes before going for a header in their box and BBM indicated both Joel's went off with knocks ?? Good that we can be cautious and have the strength on the bench not to weaken the side

Why Joel Colwill couldn't get a game at Exeter last season is a absolute mystery. You wonder sometimes what the manager was thinking. In the same vain I always wonder what the York manager was doing not playing Ollie Tanner when he was there

Couldn’t get a game at Exeter? He was only on loan for half a season and made 18 league appearances for them. Add that to the 22 league appearances he made for Cheltenham in first half of season and he had pretty much a full seasons experience in leagues 1 and 2 last year. It clearly done him the world of good for this season.

I didn't mention Cheltenham and he wasn't a starter at Exeter

He started as many games as he was sub and was rotated like he has been with us. Your statement that he “couldn’t get a game at Exeter is an absolute mystery” is more of a mystery because it’s so wide of the mark.

What was the manager thinking? Rotating a young inexperienced player new to that level of football between a starter and 20-30 minutes sub when playing 2 games a week? Hardly a mystery.

Sometimes it doesn't happen for young players on loan.

Dan James couldn't get a game at Shrewsbury. 2 years later he was at Man U.

I think describing Joel Colwill as always been mediocre is a bit harsh. Hes doing really well at the moment and hopefully if as looks likely we go up he kicks on again in The Championship.

Colwill like other young players is being backed by this manager.
