I know it is L1 but I'm struggling to come up with a slicker, fast paced, pretty accurate city passing team . Maybe Scoular's or Dave Jones 's ? I never really enjoyed the football under Malky or Warnock even though I enjoyed the success

Re: Best City Passing Teams
Maybe Jimmy Andrews team of 75/76.
I too never enjoyed the football under Malky and Warnock, but like you, I did enjoy the success. I can't wait for us to play in the Championship under BBM. For the first time in a long, long time, I am actually optimistic in the extreme that we will go up

No fan of Warnock, I think his dodgy dealings set us back financially (and, perhaps, morally) but the season we went up under him there were a few tremendous attacking performances early on with Hoilett & Mendez-Laing ripping defences apart. All went dour once he realised we had a very good chance of promotion.

And Warnock probably realised that we were never likely to keep up that level of intensity in our play. The games against Aston Villa at home, Sheffield United at home and Leeds at home were three of the best games of football i have ever seen live. I'm not saying the football was the best at times, but the sheer intensity of the performance was breathtaking at times, especially when we steam rollered Villa. Whatever a persons footballing persuasion, you couldn't not be caught up in that game.Originally posted by splott parker View PostNo fan of Warnock, I think his dodgy dealings set us back financially (and, perhaps, morally) but the season we went up under him there were a few tremendous attacking performances early on with Hoilett & Mendez-Laing ripping defences apart. Re: Best City Passing Teams
It was a hell of a few weeks wasn’t it. 100mph, just piling into ‘em. Didn’t half get the crowd going. Obviously a level lower now but it’s a lot more measured and, hopefully, sustainable now.Originally posted by Tuerto View PostAnd Warnock probably realised that we were never likely to keep up that level of intensity in our play. Re: Best City Passing Teams
I've been watching the City since 1960 though not regularly till 1968. The passing at its best this season (and that's quite often) has been better than anything I remember under Jimmy Scoular. Scoular's team were my absolute heroes with Tosh, Brian Clark etc but not a patch on this year when it comes to passing. The pitches in those days that were frequently mud baths wouldn't have helped. Though I enjoyed patches under Dave Jones, Malky and Neil Warnock I've found this season far more entertaining... especially not the goals are starting to roll in more frequently. There are also so many more goal threats in this team.Virtually the whole squad seem capable of spectacular goals. Long may it continue.Originally posted by splott parker View PostIt was a hell of a few weeks wasn’t it. 100mph, just piling into ‘em. Didn’t half get the crowd going. Re: Best City Passing Teams
Not sure if the last 4 or 5 years of absolute dire shite served up by our team has made this season seem so much more enjoyable but I haven't enjoyed a season like I have this one for years.
It's like the coach has told players a plan and they followed it.
Long may it continue.

I've never seen a better passing City team than this one. That's going back to 1976.Originally posted by Kerkyra Blue View PostI know it is L1 but I'm struggling to come up with a slicker, fast paced, pretty accurate city passing team . Re: Best City Passing Teams
I agree that this side has the edge on passing but what really sets it apart, at least in this division, is the movement off the ball. In the last few seasons, particularly, our set up was so static and our passing suffered as a result.
If BBM has done one thing it is instilling a fluidity of movement that gives the passer a few options, short and long, rather than one predictable outlet.

I'm with VT on this one. We should replace NT, as he doesn't even attempt a shot on goal.Originally posted by ronhaldo bird View PostI've been watching the City since 1960 though not regularly till 1968. Re: Best City Passing Teams
It's not really a question that's up for debate in my opinion. As Cyril has alluded to, there's a lot more to our game at the moment than just passing the ball. Movement, players stepping in when others make runs, the emphasis on attack, touches in and around the box. We have never played like this in the time I have watched City, so there's nothing to compare it with in my opinion. Therefore, this side are the best at it!
