Next match: Pre-season. Saturday, July 11th | FC Midtjylland (H) @ Cardiff City Stadium, 12:30pm -
All pre-season fixtures
9 games at 12.30 across the football league tomorrow. Absolute shite in my opinion. The irony is that it makes a trip to the football (esp away) so much worse you may as well watch it on the TV which you wish wasn't being broadcast in the first place.
It is thought that attendances at games would be affected.
Bit it's not thought that attendances at games would be affected by moving them to Friday night, Saturday lunchtime, Saturday night, and Sunday tea time? Weird.

But the clubs involved in those particular games are more than compensated for the non-attendance of non-season tickets holders and reduced away support with the revenue from the broadcaster.

I’d be interested in Sky’s viewing figures for each individual match from the 12:30 kick offs. I’ve so far resisted the temptation to rush home from my lads game to ensure I watch Doncaster v Huddersfield.
I’m finding it hard to see what neutrals would watch these Football League matches offered by Sky? I get that people may watch a game in the pub before going to a game but don’t most pubs show the Premier League match on TNT on a Saturday 12:30pm?
I’m just piissed off with City’s 12:30pm home matches.
The Premier League and Football League rules about not televising any games at 3pm on a Saturday have been written in stone for decades, although I did read recently that discussions have been taking place with a view to removing the restrictions.
It does seem daft in this day and age, although to my mind it’s seemed pointless all along.

The new EFL TV deal has seemed odd from the start. It’s difficult to see what benefits Sky or the clubs get out of it. However, while some were opposed, the majority of clubs apparently did vote for it, so I guess it must be financially viable.

Sky's TV scheduling is mystifying too. They've put some EFL matches on the same time as they've shown Premier League matches.
This coming Monday night for example, Walsall v MK Dons and Everton v Man United.
I'm sure the money must stack up but I'm not sure they're selling, advertising the EFL well even though they had done a great job in raising the profile in previous seasons.
For me, there's now too many games on TV at daft kick off times.
Edit to the above: I’ve just read a BBC report from May 2023 and apparently the EFL clubs voted unanimously to accept the new deal.
What do league 1 clubs get, £90,000 when it's on 'the red button' ? Probably 3-5000 home fans stay away depending on opponents/weather etc, and 500-1000 away fans. So it's obvious the club doesn't make any money whatsoever, pisses off it's own fanbase, and another couple of thousand re-consider buying a ST the following season. Of our 23 home games this season I reckon over half will have been changed for TV, usually with a few weeks of K.O. Looking at the date of the Blackpool game, apart from us and Blackpool fans who's going to watch us over 2 Championship games or Liverpool ? Bonkers.
