I noticed we kept three players up when defending some corners on Saturday, but that’s nothing compared to what happened in non league football last weekend.

Re: Kidderminster Harriers
It takes defenders away from attacking the set piece.Originally posted by Tuerto View PostI don't know if I'm missing something with this leaving extra players up top on corners thing, but the opposition will have to match it +1. Although I'm probably missing the point.
Although if you're that dominant I'd probably reverse it and only leave two quicker players back and stick every giant in there.

Re: Kidderminster Harriers
Yeah, although only one central defender i would have thought, just tuck the fullbacks in and make sure the defensive midfielder is in a good position, half and half so he can get back. I can't see it doing much good to be honest, although it could be a good way of regulating the holding and grappling at corners for officials. just three players from each side allowed in the box at corners. More space, less wrestling, jostling, holding etc and a clearer view for the referee. Other players only allowed to re enter after the phase is finished.Originally posted by Trigger View PostIt takes defenders away from attacking the set piece.

Re: Kidderminster Harriers
Claudio Ranieri's Premier League winning Leicester City would often only have a few players defending a corner, and had lots of players ready to get on the counter-attack which unnerved the opposition.
Simple but clever.

Re: Kidderminster Harriers
It's situational though surely or everyone would leave 6 or 7 forward. If you have some defenders capable of attacking the ball (defensively) then leaving them space to do so could help as well as the obvious threat on the counter.Originally posted by alan_corneli View PostI think it's brilliant. With 5 players in attack (your fastest players), the other team would have to leave 5 back at least, which only leaves 5 players forward and one of those has to take the corner.
If though you're quite weak then there is probably a diminishing returns point around leaving 3 or 4 forward as you're also ultimately leaving space for the attacking team to get a good sight and run at the ball.
Teams often bring everyone back when they aren't great defensively because the extra bodies in there whilst often looking like chaos also limits clean strikes of the ball at goal.
