  • BB-M pre Exeter

“We just have to remain focused on playing the best we can every single week, and look at going to Exeter on Saturday with a huge following and try everything possible to win."

“We’ve had two tough games,” Brian began. “On Saturday it was a difficult result for us, and on Tuesday we bounced back with a really solid performance, though we didn’t get the win we wanted. Now, all our focus is on Saturday at Exeter away from home.

“We’re very aware of how long the season is, and how many games remain, so we have to focus on Saturday’s game completely and without any distractions whatsoever.

“Exeter City have a different manager to when we’ve played them previously, so it’s a different set of circumstances. We watched the game on Tuesday and they’re similar in some ways but different in some finer details, we’ve prepared very well and I’m sure that we’ll do everything possible to win.

“The players have given me a whole new perspective on travelling, they love travelling together as they have a really tight-knit bond, and all in all it’s a pretty enjoyable experience.

With ten matches remaining of the league campaign, Brian called for renewed focus from the Bluebirds as they look to return to winning ways at St James Park.

“I think that there has to be an incredible focus from our dressing room on the next game and ignoring as much as possible what other teams are doing, because it really is all about ourselves, and we don’t need to rely on help from anybody else, from any outside people, because we can’t control that.

“We control what we do; how we play, how we perform, and what the players have done is put us in an incredible position to have an incredible end to the season, and that we just have to try our best to win on Saturday and understand that’s the most important thing.

“It’s an incredible club to be part of and an incredible team to be working with, I’m so grateful for what the players have done. More than that, I’m really so excited for what the players can do.

“They just have to remain focused on playing the best they can every single week, and look at going to Exeter on Saturday with a huge following and try everything possible to win. For now, it’s just one game at a time."

And lost one-nil to Lincoln last game, last six games drawn three lost three.

We know what to expect: low block, eleven men behind the ball, defend like mad, try and frustrate us, then hit us on the break, and from long throws, free kicks and corners.

We have to take advantage of our corners and set pieces while teams are trying to frustrate and ruin our composure.

How many we scored direct from corners this season? Struggling to think of any.

Off the top of my head, I can think of goals against Rotherham, Cheltenham, Mansfield and Northampton which came from corners in addition to those mentioned above - the one at Northampton was an own goal mind.

To balance things out a bit, it's my opinion that any additional goals we might have scored from dead ball situations if we still had a team full of hulking giants would be more than offset by the goals we've scored this season as a result of playing the BBM way.

Yes weren't we top for open play goals in the EFL recently. Can't find the link now.

Nowhere near enough, we have scored a few from short corners and a different angle and some across the floor to the outside of the box. We had so many corners on Tuesday; we should do better from them.
