  • Plymouth's Resurgence

I hadn’t realised just how well Plymouth have been doing in 2026 until I saw a post on Facebook last night which highlighted the fact that they have the second-highest League One points tally so far this year.

The table for games played from 01/01/2026 to present looks like this:

    1 - Lincoln - P 16, W 12, D 4, L 0, Pts 40
    2 - Plymouth - P 16, W 10, D 3, L 3, Pts 33
    3 - Cardiff - P17, W 8, D 6, L 3, Pts 30
    4 - Bolton - P 17, W 7, D 8, L 2, Pts 29
    5 - Reading - P 17, W 8, D 5, L 4, Pts 29
    6 - Wycombe - P 16, W 8, D 3, L 5, Pts 27

Plymouth were in the relegation zone on New Year’s Eve. They’re now 7th, just one point short of the play-offs. That’s some turnaround, especially as striker Lorent Tolaj has been missing through injury for the last month.

It’s just as well from our perspective that Argyle had such a slow start, but they can do us a favour in their next game on Good Friday when they play Bolton at Home Park.

They are well below us, because they have been shit half the season. They are 7th now because of the points they have earned so far this season, which is eighteen points less than us; if my auntie had a penis, she would be my uncle.

Saying that they will probably be the favourites to win the playoffs.

Maybe Plymouth are playing with a false 9, whatever that is, and not missing Tolaj. It may catch on, who knows

It’s a great turnaround from the start of the year, there’s usually always one team that comes from nowhere and just hits form at the right time.
A good result against Bolton will not only help us, but could also give them that psychological advantage if they end up drawing them in the playoffs.
To have kept their run going despite missing their top striker for a while is a great achievement.

There’s still a few twists and turns to see who finishes in the top 6

They just took a while to get going after last season, did they change manager before Christmas?

No, Tom Cleverley was appointed last summer. They had a big turnover of players following their relegation and seem to have taken time to settle down. I think they also brought in a few new players in January.

They also have to play Bradford. Apart from those two they are playing Northamptpn, Exeter, Wimbledon, Port Vale and Barnsley.

The form they are in they could win all those games. But crucuially, beating Bolton would be the biggest favour they could do us.

They are playing a Warnock, get in and at 'em style, it's good to watch, currently.

That’ll be it I guess. Out of all the others I’d quite like them to come up with Lincoln and us, hopefully beating Bolton in the final with two stoppage time goals

Not a lot, but I have seen enough to form an opinion.

                        No, it really isn't.

Obviously not exactly, and my reply was a generalisation, but there are some similarities in the way they get the ball faster than teams like us; they are more technical than traditional Warnock teams, but it's a different era.
