John Toshack has dementia

The BBC is reporting that according to his son Cameron. John Toshack is now suffering from dementia. It is affecting his short term memory in particular at the moment.

Happens to so many footballers sadly.

Crazy to think that he managed in nine or ten other countries, real madrid twice, but never had a managerial job in England.

Horrible disease. My mum died from it 10 years ago.
Was living alone, looking after herself (with plenty of family visits) when she fell ill overnight; went from being in her 80s to thinking she was in her 20s - took two and half years to waste away after that, retreating further into her childhood. The same thing happened to her mum, her aunt, her sister and two of her brothers.

So sad to here this. Tosh was my first ever City hero. Broke my heart as an 11 year old when he moved to Liverpool. I still haven't forgiven them 56 years on

Interesting to read that Toshack’s long term memory is as good as it ever was, because I can remember thinking exactly that when I watched an interview with him a couple of years ago. Another footballer who played in a position where he was heading a ball a lot struck by dementia, but he’s quite a bit older than other sportsmen with it, so I wonder if this is football related?

Either way, I hope the next few years are as good as they can be for someone who I idolized as kid and his family.

Really sad, another footballer, there is a growing number. I wonder how long until there is a law change, no heading?

Didn't he play for the City at some time ? Seen the BBC report and a couple of newspaper articles and they mention his time at Liverpool and Swansea plus his managerial roles, but nothing else.
