    Re: Belfast

Did anybody see the drone Titanic they did the other day? https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hYw-bCT2lF0

Nice to see a pleasant use of drones on the news for once

      Re: Belfast

You can walk from Shankhill Rd to Falls Rd, via the gates, in about 20 minutes, and another 20 minutes from there to Windsor Park, and the George Best statue. It will probably take longer though if you want to take in all the ‘artwork’.

Im off on a Cruise soon and its stopping in Belfast, doing the Titanic museum ( wife's choice )

but I want to see a few of the other sites, Bobby Sands Mural, peace gates, is it safe enough to do a bit of a walking tour of Falls Rd and Shankill Rd with me and the mrs, im guessing these days its all very safe and touristy ? ?
I did 3 months there in i think in 1984, brown trouser alert every day, if you went off base!!!

and 4 months there 2 years ago, my wife came over 3 times and wandered about in the day feeling safe AF although she didn't do any of 80's naughty places TBF, out at night was vey good IMO cathedral square the best place but plenty of other nice areas for the craic, didn't think much of Belfast Castle, avoid it if only a short time ashore, my apartment was a short walk from the Titanic Museum which I thought was great because of the engineering aspect. I would say it's pretty much a typical British City, same shops, unclean, homelessness begging etc., it's expensive however, four yourself and wife i think you'll enjoy it and be fine. IMO the Norn Iron people are far friendlier than the South but it's many years since I've been in the South.

            thanks all

Ive been speaking to a guy in Belfast who does tours ( that take 2 - 3 hours ) Ive asked him if we can hurry it along and do it in under 2 hours, he said yes, then proudly announced he will not give a balanced opinion due to the fact he is a ex provo might just do the walk ourselves

              Re: Belfast

I've been twice and loved it both times.

I went in to a few pubs that probably don't see many tourists and they were frosty as **** until they realised I'm Welsh and they turned into some of the warmest people I've ever met.

Dublin is the same, as is Glasgow, but obviously in Scotland.

When we went to Belfast a few years ago we combined it with the Antrim Coast - walking for 4 days (50 miles) and visiting the Giants Causeway and other places (villages, castles, beaches) on the north coast.

We wanted to get to Derry but ran out of time. Local buses are good along the coast and, as we didn't have a car, taxis from Belfast (and back again) worked out OK for price. Certainly cheaper than a hire car.

We are doing a road trip around Ireland in about 6 weeks starting and finishing in Dublin (Holyhead Ferry) but also including Derry, so catching up with what we missed last time.

I was in a backstreet pub in Dublin about 25 years ago with my brother and about five of his English employees. We weren't being raucous or offensive in any way when a local sidled up to us and advised us to drink up and leave. We did.

I'm going there in the summer. A friend recommended the Crown Bar to me.

Imagine years ago saying Belfast is going to be a nice place for a little weekend away.

                              Re: Belfast

I lived there about 10 years ago and loved it. Fascinating place with a lot of quirks and idiosyncrasies you won't find anywhere else in the UK. All the people I met were warm and friendly and, unsurprisingly, most of them had a pretty dark sense of humour.

Shame OP only has a few hours - I believe there are return flights daily from Cardiff, though. Would recommend anyone to spend a weekend there (and the surrounding natural areas).

might aswell get what I want to see done and not feel super rushed
