    Re: Spygate (part 2)

I personally think they’ll get a fine and points deduction the next season they play EFL football. Either next season or the season after they get relegated from the Prem.

I think they get a huge fine and some dodgy decisions at Wembley.
      I very much doubt that.

Swindon Town won promotion in 1990 to the PL then got relegated 2 divisions for illegal payments. Slightly different but I feel Southampton could suffer the same outcome.

The EFL will spot the opportunity to earn themselves a hefty fee with a large fine for Southampton, which they will be happy to pay if they end up in the premier league, or appeal if they don’t.

The funniest solution would be to insist all Southampton’s training sessions next season are made open to the public.

Chuck Southampton out of the Play Off Final and get the Premier League to cancel nest season’s parachute money.

Agree, i don't know if you have seen the footage of the kid that's doing the spying (MI5) won't be calling him any time soon) but it's like a scene from Father Ted when Ted gets another one of his 'Great ideas' and sends Dougal off to do the dirty work. Honestly, i'd have offered the kid a cuppa and a slice of cake the dull Twat, because it's almost as if he's been stitched up by his colleagues and they're all pissing themselves laughing while they wave him off.

Even if Southampton obtained some evidence on how Boro were going to line up, they still have to go out and beat them, and whatever Boro were likely to do it's not as if Southampton haven't seen if before, they'd have worked it out pretty quickly.

This young man parked in a Golf Club, got changed in the toilets and walked along a path, didn't quite line himself up with the tree he was supposed to be hiding behind and took out his phone. Honestly, the only thing that was missing was a joke shop disguise and the theme from mission impossible.

So why would Southampton send a member of their staff to record Middlesbrough?

It seems utter stupidity. I agree I think the advantage is probably negligible. But to break the rules to do it they must think they can get an advantage.

Thinking about it he could have just said he was an auditor making a video for YouTube. No one would have been the wiser.

Spying on another team’s training session provides information which could be used to obtain an unfair competitive advantage, otherwise why do it? That’s why the rule was introduced.

If the rule has been broken then, as an unfair competitive advantage may have been obtained, it’s difficult to see why the sanction would be anything other than Southampton forfeiting the tie.

                                He's a member of staff.

William Salt is a young football analyst from Sandhurst, England, who has been working with Southampton FC as a first team performance analysis intern. His role focused on supporting the club’s coaching and tactical preparation, an increasingly important area in modern football where data, opposition research, and match analysis play a key part.
