I think that shirt was our first with any yellow and was probably a nod to the daffodil on the club crest. The crest though wasn't used on shirts until the 80s.

1975. I remember that shirt being darker than the ones available on TOFFS etc. But I could be wrong.

I just can't believe you're turning your fire on these two threads and letting the Eurovision one sail through unscathed :hehe:

Long post alert. If any one wants to moan about it, they do not have to read it and can sod off before they comment negatively about the length of it. There is something at the end that I would like people to read though, before they sod off 😀

I think that major league soccer had just started in the USA and they attracted some big names to try and get it popular, players like Pele, Beckenbauer, etc.

Obviously there was no real history of football shirts, so the designers jazzed it up for an American audience. Although the designs would probably be considered as tame, compared to kits of today, they were really out there compared to the no frills no, no nonsense kits in European football.

The following season there were a few teams that jazzed up the designs over here and we probably went with the trend.

I love that shirt, because it coincided with when I started going down the City and it always brings back nostalgic memories of the time… not just football but music of the time.

Around that time, my friend entered a competition ran by the Echo, to design a Cardiff City kit, he won two tickets for a game in the Grandstand and he took me along. One of my main memories of that game, was when someone boofed the ball so high that I could not see it as it was obscured by the Grandstand roof. I knew where it was going though, cos Albert Lamour was positioning himself ready to head it. However, the ball came down literally vertically and Lamour leaned forward to head it, but missed it. It bounced up off his toes and whacked him under the jaw and he went down as if he had been hit by an Ali uppercut. I was distraught cos he was my favourite player at the time, cos I used to play centre half for my school.

I do have a question for any one in the know about these things… during that first season of that shirt, I cannot recall any manufacturer logo on there. A season or two later, the umbro diamond logo appeared… so my question is… who was the kit manufacturer and does anyone know name of the actual person who designed it?

I think we wore that shirt for 4 seasons from 75/76 onwards. It was always Umbro. This photo shows the Umbro logo under the Bluebird.

The kit for 77/78 and 78/79 had the Umbro logo running down the sleeves and sides of the shorts.

I have never noticed that before, thanks for pointing it out.

Now, all we need is the name of the person responsible for designing such a thing of beauty.

It was probably a 5 year old winning a painting competition on Bilidowcer

There's plenty of ridiculous threads on this board but these quite reasonable for a football forum to me, particularly during when we haven't got games to discuss

Also, didn't Luton play in that template before us?
