It was nine years ago. A fair bit has happened since then. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is still scoring goals though.

The City team that day contained two players who are definitely still playing - Mendez-Laing and Junior Hoilett - and they scored City’s goals. The side also contained Joe Ralls, who hasn’t retired just yet.

Meanwhile, the Villa side included the great Albert Adomah. I think he’s the only one of their line-up still playing.

mind went back to that game this evening. Fortunes have changed since. Villa didn’t get out of the Championship that season. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing that day in August.

Me neither. It was a strange game. We hammered them. They didn't seem the slightest bit dangerous. And to cap it all that wanker John Terry was playing. What a day.
